Permanent Resident Card Production Delays

USCIS is announcing that applicants may experience up to an eight week delay in the delivery of their permanent resident card while we are in the process of upgrading our card production equipment. USCIS Field Offices will be issuing temporary evidence of permanent residence in the form of an I-551 stamp to applicants approved for permanent residence at the time of their interview. You will need to take your passport to your appointment. If you do not have a passport, you must bring a passport style photo and government issued photo identification to receive temporary evidence of permanent residence.

If the application is approved subsequent to your interview or by a Service Center or the National Benefit Center, the applicant should bring the above documents to an INFOPASS appointment to be issued temporary evidence of permanent residence in the form of an I-551 stamp.

You will need to take your passport to your appointment.

What does that mean? Will USCIS send you a letter saying when your appointment is? Do you have to make the appointment yourself? Is it an INFOPASS appointment?

This happens at your AOS interview. You would be bringing your passport anyway.

If you were approved without an interview, or if you have been approved and waiting for a greencard, you can make an infopass appointment for your local USCIS office and get the I-551 stamp placed in your passport. The instructions are included in the notice I posted. To make an infopass appointment you go to http://www.uscis.gov, go to the right hand column and select 'Schedule an appointment". Then follow the instructions. On the day of your appointment, bring your passport and whatever documentation that you have that will have either your case processing number or your A number. They will look up your information on the computer system to verify it, then put the stamp in your passport. The stamp is as good as a green card although it will have an expiry date. You should have received your green card by the time the stamp expires.

Tried to make INFOPASS appointment online.

Clicked on the link that said "You are a permanent resident and have not received your permanent resident card."

This was the reply:

"At this time, there are no information appointments available for the office in your area. Please try back again later. "

My "area" happens to be South Florida, the freaking immigration capital of the world.

Very useful post, thank you.

I have my interview this week and will report afterward whether there was any issue getting the stamp.

I assume this is especially important for people who plan to be traveling abroad in the weeks after the interview? (don't they sometimes remove I-94 from the passport or is that incorrect?)

But we are talking adjustment of status-interviews in the US though.

I have not heard yet of K1- or K3-visa (or CR-1/IR-1) cases that did not require an interview (I see you are waiting for a K1-visa).

Good luck with your upcoming interview though!

And I agree with preferring none at all - I am not looking forward to next week (since my husband is away on orders, I have to go by myself ...).

OK.

I got the magic email from CRIS saying welcoming the new permanent resident.

It talks about ADIT processing.

What does this mean?

Application Type: I485, APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS

Current Status: Notice mailed welcoming the new permanent resident.

On May 27, 2009, we mailed you a notice that we had registered this customer's new permanent resident status. Please follow any instructions on the notice. Your new permanent resident card should be mailed within 60 days following this registration or after you complete any ADIT processing referred to in the welcome notice, whichever is later. If you move before you get your new card call customer service. You can also receive automatic e-mail updates as we process your case. Just follow the link below to register.

and then I also got this email:

*** DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS E-MAIL ***

The last processing action taken on your case

Application Type: I485 , APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS

Current Status: Card production ordered.

On May 27, 2009, we ordered production of your new card. Please allow 30 days for your card to be mailed to you. If we need something from you we will contact you. If you move before you receive the card, call customer service. You can also receive automatic e-mail updates as we process your case. Just follow the link below to register.

I got the card production ordered first on May 27 then the Notice mailed welcoming the new permanent resident on May 28 which says about ADIT.

Makes me confuse. Is this normal?I know I had my Biometrics done last April 24,2009 -> I-765 and I-485 at the same day.

N-400 Naturalization

04/25/2012 - sent N-400 package to USCIS Dallas

04/28/2012 - package delivered at USCIS Dallas

I-751 Removal of Condition

03/22/2011 - sent I-751 package to USCIS Vermont via USPS Priority+Certified mail with Return receipt

03/24/2011 - package delivered at VSC according to USPS tracking

03/25/2011 - package received by Center Director according to Return receipt

04/04/2011 - NOA received - dated 03/25/2011

04/11/2011 - Biometrics Appointment Notice received -notice date 04/08/2011

04/28/2011 - Biometrics Appointment - Done!

10/14/2011 - Card Production Email
