AOS on F1

I am in the US and am about to apply for an aos to permanent status. Currently I am on an f1 student visa. Part of my f1 visa requirements is to actively be enrolled in college. At what point can I quit college and work with the temporary work pass?

I already have a ss and know where I can get a job once I have the permission.

You can legally work as soon as you receive your Employment Authorization Document. You will also need to change your status with Social Security.

Once you are a LPR you dont need the student visa.

Right but the temporary work card is granted before the green card, which then grans permanent residence. Between obtaining the work card and obtain permanent residence that is they key period im concerned about.

I would suggest that you enroll in classes in remain in status while your AOS is being processed. The period between your EAD and GC arrival puts you in a murky gray area where you are not illegal but not a legal permanent resident either. Talk to the your International Student Advisor and see what they have to tell you. They will probably tell you to enroll in classes too because if you dont, they would have to report to SEVIS. However, I have seen a lot of cases where people drop out of classes once they have sent their AOS package in.
