Our interview will be 6/23.

My wife speaks limited english. I am afraid, if they start asking complicated questions she would not be able to understand and answer properly, if the nervous would be enough.

Can we request a translater for the interview, and if yes, when that should be done.

I can act as a translator, I have done that many times at the hospital and doctors (she is pregnant), but would they accept that?, I could be answering for booth of us...

It is a standard procedure. She can answer easy questions like "your name, date of birth, address".. things like that. If the questions get complicated, you will be allowed to translate and help her answer. It`s normal... Don`t worry about it. Go over Sample Interview Questions with your wife and have her prepared to answer those. They are usual questions.

Although allowed in some cases, you cannot usually act as the interpreter for your spouse at the AOS interview. They want a disinterested party. In the end, the interview might be easy and you might not need one, but it is best to be prepared. Bring along a translator.

We brought along a translator, but my wife was only asked one question ,so it ended up being unneeded, but we wanted to be ready just in case.

We were in the same situation. My hubby understands English much better than he speaks it. Our interviewer said it wasn't a problem. She spoke slowly and asked if he understood, and if not that I could translate.

I emailed the Brazilian consulate in Rio and they replied that the interviews are in Portuguese.

While some IO allow spousal trabslation, I wouldn't count on it.

If the foreign spouse does not speak English well enough, you really should bring a translator. I don't remember where, but I did read that on some USCIS form too, so that's the regulation. USCIS does NOT provide translators.
