Blah, looks like a horrible commute!

Every morning and afternoon, my dear :(

Oh man, I am so totally on a mission to find you a closer job! That does not look pretty!

I don't actually mind driving on the 401. I grew up 5 minutes to every major highway in Toronto so I can pretty much drive anywhere, in any traffic. I'd say it's all relative. My fiance thinks I suck at driving, but he's from NYC, so he's much more aggressive!

You've never experienced driving til you've driven in California. In southern california, it's a formula one race with everyone pissed off and on the verge of murder. In northern california, everyone drives a little slower, but they insist on tailgating. Then you have central california or what we like to call The Taint Of California. They drive so damn slow. So aggrivating for everyone lol.

sort of what it's like in the tri-state area. You can literally tell where people are from by their driving style.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Well I've drivin in every lower 48 state and all the major cities at one time or another. Many at rush hour. From my expierince Central Florida is the worst for driving experience (I-4 especially). DC is the worst for traffic congestion.

So Cal isn't bad at all other then Holiday weekends where you can't drive out of the city to save your life, other then that, just the jams can be a hassle, but really California isn't bad at all compared to say ohhh Central Florida.

I don't know if it's a combination of snowbirds and pissed of locals or what. You get the super slow as hell Canadian drivers (yes I have seen and noticed that Canadian drives everywhere regardless of age are always super slow on the roads and many times hold up traffic). Or if it's just too much sun stroke or if it's just the local Haitian drug gangs doing their I-95 or I-4 drug mule transports or something.

Now I have seen bad drivers everywhere. New Mexico is bad for people never using their turn signals, Arizona can get pretty aggressive (probably Central Floridan transplants) and Michigan is a little more on the aggressive side as well.

Of course you could also go to West Texas where people on the back roads will always wave to you as you pass them from the opposite direction (no Central Floridans live there apparently).

The most of my driving experince is the South West, Southern Cal, Central Florida, Michigan - Ohio - Indiana corridor. So I could have hit places like DC just at the worst possible times when I've gone. As for the others though Central Florida still without question is the single worst place to drive without question...

I'm just a wanderer in the desert winds...

So if I am understanding you, Central Florida is the worst?

You know, the thing about this place is that there are probably a lot of - tourists - the second thing is, most of the people in Florida are probably from elsewhere.

It's funny how people always say Alberta drivers are the worst - well it wasn't always like that - it used to be a pleasure to drive there, honestly 98% of the time people were nice and courteous etc etc.

Not now, now it is just a race - I attribute this to all of the people who have come from elsewhere to Calgary - maybe it's the meshing of all different driving styles in different places - or from coming from some place like Toronto where people drive super fast in some cases. Interesting.

I find driving in Vancouver ridiculously frustrating. Sure, Highway 1 is easy, but try going downtown or worse yet, remaining unable to make u-turns! I hate that so much.

Driving in Houston was a lot easier for me. Of course, I also knew the streets and where to go at what time of day, too. Btw... Texandian, that picture (of the traffic) looked like it was near the 610 Loop. Never go there. Ever. The Loop is crazy. I much prefer I-10, I-45 and Beltway 8. The latter is a lot easier with an EZ Tag as well.

I still get happy when I make a u-turn here. It makes life so much easier when I'm lost.

True.

But, I've noticed that here, for example, merge lanes onto highways fall short of decent and you have short merges with people not knowing whether to speed up or slow down. It's very frustrating and causes lots of accidents.
