Good work, Leo-Feng!

For all I know, the touches simply mean they've added my fingerprints & mug shot to the application file.

Does anyone know what happens to the application file after it is received at the Chicago Lockbox? I know we're supposed to have the interview at our local Field Office in San Diego, but what happens in between? I've seen some mentions of the National Benefits Center (NBC) as well as the Service Centers (e.g., CSC, VSC). Do the AOS applications go through all those? Is that what is meant by the category "Transfer" that I've seen on the AOS filers spreadsheet?

My understanding is that family-based AOS applications get transfered twice.

The first transfer is from CHICAGO to the NBC.

The second one from NBC to your local field office.

I believe our AOS applications will bypass the other service centers because a visa# is always readily available for family-based AOS applications; where as employment-based depends on time of fiscal year, quotas, etc.

That is a tough decision when you factor in the drive. I would have been content to wait till the 10th but that weekend is super crazy. I am glad to have it done but the waiting is nothing after the K-1 process. So I guess I would play it safe unless you have a reason to head that way anyway or feel like a day trip.

Does getting your Biometrics done earlier make things happen any faster? The Spread sheet looks great and filling up nicely. Well done DavChels, Josue is a lucky guy.

Well we feel like a day trip today...and testing out my brother's new GPS that he let us borrow haha. We are going to risk it and see what happens. I don't know if it makes things happen any faster but since we were hoping he would have his EAD around mid-late July, if we don't go to Biometrics until the 15th we won't have a chance until after that.

And thanks, that is so nice of you to say

I moved from Toronto to New York City on June 6th, we were married on June 9th and then went to Vegas for 8 days on a honeymoon and finally got through all the paperwork once we got back.

I'm hoping for an EAD/AP by September.

Good luck to all!

Welcome and Good Luck! I lived in Brooklyn for eight years...I miss NYC. Boston is nice but I may return. Know of any Art teaching jobs? I worked for the public system. I miss the kids they were a blast.

My understanding is that family-based AOS applications get transfered twice.

The first transfer is from CHICAGO to the NBC.

The second one from NBC to your local field office.

Thanks for the helpful explanation, Leo-Feng. I wonder if we would know when the transfers occur, e.g., if they would be reflected on the case status website.

I frequently find myself musing where my lovely stack of paper is at this very moment and what it is doing. Is it in a box, shelved neatly among a myriad of fellow application files, stacked against the wall at some INS facility, awaiting their turn, or is it in a cozy shipping container on its merry way from Chicago to the NBC, or is it in some officer's luggage as s/he takes a stack of applications from the office to work on at home? (As you can tell, I read, and was infinitely amused by, the interesting and informative account by that former INS adjudicating officer who subsequently got to experience the process from the other side as a petitioner. What a rare and insightful glimpse into the inner workings of an INS office!)

SurfingPumpkin, interesting thoughts :) Not sure precisely where our package is at the moment, but when we login on the USCIS website it tells us the following for all 3 (I-485, I-765, I-131): This case is at our NATIONAL BENEFITS CENTER location. I didn't read all of the fine print before, but that may have been why it was "touched" was if it was transferred the first time.

Well, we took our road trip today and it was a success! We arrived around 1 pm and went in (didn't have to pay parking yay!), showed the letter to the security at front. He said he would ask the supervisor because most likely we would have to explain why we couldn't come on the scheduled day. He went and asked the supervisor, I saw him nod his head, and then the guy came back and said it was fine, we could do the biometrics today. So he checked our IDs, we went through the "airport checkpoint" as it always reminds me of, and then we went to the front desk, they gave us a number. We went to the supervisor (who was in charge of the room where the biometrics were taken), he spoke Spanish and told Josue to fill out a paper and took his appt letter and passport. As soon as we filled out the paper he walked it to straight to a woman with the equipment (there were 3 stations for doing biometrics), she called him up, and they joked around quite a bit attempting to communicate in Spanglish. Then she gave us the letter back with a stamp filled out with the date and all and said we were done. I still wasn't sure so on the way out I asked the guy at the front desk, he said "Did they take your fingerprints?" I said yes, he said "Did the police come?" I said no, he said "Then you should be fine, get out while you can" lol. Very nice, easy experience. Then we drove 40 minutes to go see my grandma who I hadn't seen in a good while and then we came back home. Hopefully we'll get some quick results like everyone else!

I am so glad that it worked out. What a relief! Do we know if it makes things happen faster? My timeline has not changed and I have no touches. My update has been the same since I logged on the first time...at NBC as well. I guess we will find out. Hope everyone is well. (L)

Didn't know the NBC was in Missouri lol. Is that where they schedule the interviews and all?

The AOS & EAD got touched again yesterday - adding prints & pic to his account, surely. The AP didn't get touched again and the biometrics were only necessary for AOS & EAD so that explains it.

Chelsea - Congrats on getting the biometrics over with!

You are right - all 4 of my applications too now say they are at NBC. Glad to see they've arrived in Missouri safe and sound :)

Yeah, I googled it - apparently, the NBC is in Lee's Summit, MO! (Never heard of this place before.) I even found a photo of the building online - http://www.usaimmigrationattorney.com/Nati...fitsCenter.html lol (I know, I'm stalking my own application... :)

I think, though I could be wrong, that NBC schedules the interviews in coordination with the local office where we'd actually be interviewed at. I read here that some people get the notice for the interview before they even receive their EAD/AP, which NBC handles.

In my case, all of my apps (including AP) got touched after I had the biometrics, but I don't think that means anything one way or another. I heard touches appear even if someone just moved your file from one desk to another.

Welcome SapphireDreams!

You are indeed a June filer -- since you already added your case to the spreadsheet don't forget to keep us all updated. We're here to help each other out. You should be receiving your NOA1 by the end of June or very early in July.

Chelsea, I'm sooo happy for you! Glad that it all worked out after that LONG drive! I couldn't imagine them turning you and Josue around after that drive. I'm so jealous of you and your "touches"!!! Neither application has been touched since the 11 and 16 for me even after I got the BIO done 2 days ago. I sent a letter like the officer recommended I do to let NBC know that the G-28 is annulled and I represent myself. The officer sent her referral. Those two things would HAVE to produce a touch! I don't know what else would

Surfin I'm hoping we'll be notified too whenever the file gets transfered to the field offices. Maybe a letter? Maybe a touch followed by a change in the description when you click on the case? We'll see. For the most part I think now the REAL WAITING begins...

Most of us have already received our appointment dates so the traffic in this thread would slow down substantially until we start receiving better news.

What do you all say??? 2-6 MONTHS?
