Wow aren't you fancy being on the internet at the USCIS office. Do they even allow cell phones?

And it was 13 months to the day since we filed for K-1...not too shabby!!

By the way, just a general reminder to those with foreign male husbands - if they are between 18 and 26, they should register for Selective Service within 30 days of becoming resident. You can do so here http://www.sss.gov/ or at your local post office, although I tried online and it said it didn't recognize Josue's SS# and we have to do it at the PO...bummer.

I received this email at 6:20pm.

On November 25, 2009, we ordered production of your new card.

Now I can breathe and celebrate Turkey day!

My interview:

We both dress up. Dress, tie... etc. I was called in about 20 minutes after our appointment time. My wife followed me behind very closely and the officer greeted us at the door. We walked through a narrow hall filled with interviewing offices to each side, all occupied. Baltimore field office is VERY busy indeed. She led us into her office, and within seconds she swore us under oath.

The officer, in the upper 30s was VERY PROFESSIONAL. She always grinned and smiled a little while staying focused on her job.

I can't say I was at east with the officer. It seemed she had the attitude/position we had to convince her the marriage was legit instead of her being at ease and silently trying to catch any suspicion of fraud. Anyway...

She asked for our full name, birth date, social security number, when we got married. She asked to see what documents we had brought for her to see and asked for both our passports.

I had made a folder full of documents and handed it over the index. She sort of smiled, looked over and said "well give me your bank statements, health insurance, and lease agreement".

She then asked us (never specifically asking either me or my wife) how we met, where. My wife started telling her about our beginnings in high school as high school sweethearts and the officer was not convinced. She said "you gotta tell me more". I was so nervous then!!

My wife, she was VERY nervous. More than me. I was trying to make conversation with the officer but was unable to make friends. Again, she was very professional. I took over and told her more about our friends from school, how we overcome the dating obstacles while in school, etc. Twenty minutes in she seemed more at ease with us and asked to see the pictures. She looked to the entire album and asked questions about the pictures (where they were taken, who was in them, etc).

After this she said "well looks like I have enough evidence. I will recommend the case be approved. However, my supervisor still needs to review it and he will have a final say".

She handed over the album to us and asked her if she wanted to keep any pictures and said "give me whatever pictures you want in your file" so naturally my wife picked the ones where she looks best. WOMEN!

Ok everyone. I need to make dessert for turkey day. I hope I didn't bore you to death and once again, thanks for saving me $2,000-$3,000 in attorney fees. This experience, while stressful as it is, was a great learning experience into immigration laws, their forms and a reassurance of my favorite quote "If you want something done right, DO IT YOURSELF!"

HAPPY THANKSGIVING AOS JUNE 2009 CREW! WE ROCK!

Lol... I need a drink  boot camp here I come...

AND HANG IN THERE MOVINGSOON!

Thanks.

If I understood the recruiter correctly I have to be at least in a 30-day fitness program before they can ship me out to BC.

So based on his calculations I may be headed for boot camp in mid-January at the earliest.

However, I think that's assuming I pick a job (MOS) that is not in high demand and there are openings available. I'm not picky... I really wanna start ASAP.

Anything but cook. I don't want a whole battalion to starve because of me

I am so happy for you.......you certainly overcame the obstacles that were in your way from the very beginning. Enjoy!

Troy

Congratulations Leo! :dance::dance::dance:

When do you head off to boot camp? My retired marine asks

Movingsoon...you ARE next ..hang in there !

Thank you cdneh for your encouraging words! Being the last one left makes me feel like it must be my turn next!

Leo Feng - such great news, go and get the turkey now ...

I hope to hear good news from YOU soon!!!

Still nothing in the mail, but got another text/email saying:

Current Status: Approval notice sent.

On November 27, 2009, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this I485 APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS.

Of course, they have jumped to "Document production or Oath Ceremony", then to "Decision", then back to "Document production or Oath Ceremony" then to "Post-Decision Activity", each time sending out an email. You would think they could get it straight, but I'm not complaining! Just keeping our eyes out for the mail!

Glad everything (finally) went smoothly for you, Leo, and that you didn't have to pay all the lawyer fees. Now how does your wife feel that you finally got full permission to stay and you want to leave?!?!
