Just wondering, if my boyfriend and I got married in my home country, can he go back to the US and process papers for bringing me in as immediate family? If yes, what is this documentation called and how soon can we be together? Has anyone done something similair?

As a spouse of a USC you are immediate family. I130 is the first package to file.

There a few different steps and according to everything I read it usually takes 8-12 months to be complete, every case is different.

Depends on the country where you are coming from..likewise, depends on how strong your ties are in your country proving that you are only going for a visit.

NO, you cannot wait in the US for your visa. Otherwise, everybody will be there now and not wait for this whole process to finish.

But, thank you all for your help. We now have to decide what route we are going to opt, the K-1 or k-3/CR-1 .

I would suggest to take CR-1 route... Since wait i think is little bit longer but it is safe and easy once you enter the USA... You will be given a 2 year conditional greencard. But you can work and visit your home country. So no tension until 2 years..

Also look for DCF from your country.. That might be soon as well..

I also suggest taking the CR-1 route. That is what I did, and although it took probably longer it is in my option a better way and in the long run less paperwork. We got married in May 2007 in the Netherlands, filed in June 2007 (we had to wait for the international marriage certificate) and was approved early May 2008. Although it took 11 months, we were able to travel back and forth as much as we wanted.

If you come to visit and they let you enter, you can stay as long as they authorize you to do so, but likely it will be far short of the entire processing time.

Yes you could, but sometimes the U.S. immigration requires you to get the marriage certificate "translated", depending on which country it is from. He can definitely petition for you to come doing the K3/CR1 route, depending on if you want to work right away. I would highly recommend the CR1 --it's also cheaper the in long run!

For clarification, you have already married so filing K1 is not an option you are not a fiancee you are a spouse !
