Congrats!!!

Dear VJers,

I just received a call from my fiance, our K1 visa has been approved!!! Thanks for all the help and support provided by this community, it certainly did help ease my work load and clear up and questions that I had. My fiance was asked 20-30 questions and the interviewer about commented on our age. He told her that it is an unusual case for them since my fiance is only 20 while I am only 21 years old. Nevertheless, we got it...So excited. Thanks again.

Sincerely,

Jeff

Thanks. Lol. My honey would agree on the "not looking through all the documents" part since the interviewer pretty much looked at 1/6 of the documents. As of questions, my dear was asked 20-30 questions...more than needed and more than we have anticipated.

Congrats foofoo!

Just 9 more days 'till it's my fiancee's turn... She's real nervous because she was denied a tourist visa early last year, most likely because she used the forbidden word on tourist visa interviews, "boyfriend".

Hehehe, Yep, I got mine on July 29th too!

So that means I must have been there the same time as the other Malaysian fiancee. ;-) I guess I saw one other girl in there... Didn't really pay attention.

And yeah, didn't look through any of my "proof of ongoing relationship" documents and only took the required forms on the checklist. He did look through my photos and thanked me for showing them to him. haha. He was a young Asian american guy and real sweet. Just talked to me as if I was a new friend and he was just getting to know me. Relaxed and non tense!

Yippie!

Another Malaysian VJ-er also got the visa approved on the 29th, but I'll wait for the person to announce it himself/herself ;)

As for me, I got my NOA2 dated July 14th. :)

I am so glad I found this thread. My case background: My dad was born in Malaysia and lived there until age 18. Then he moved to Taiwan, where he met my mom and where I was born and where he is living. I am now an American citizen living in the United States and applying for permanent residency for him. My dad is not close to his family in Malaysia and we rarely visit, so we don't have a lot of connections there.

We are now at the NVC stage with the immigration visa. I sent in all the supporting documents with DS-230, and then NVC sent a letter back saying that my dad's Malaysian birth certificate is not a certified copy (we had sent them a copy that was certified by the Malaysian "embassy" in Taipei called Malaysian Friendship and Trade Centre). Also they were saying that they need Letter of Good Conduct (it does not say whether the one we obtained from the Malaysian Friendship and Trade Centre - which took FOUR MONTHS for us to receive - is not sufficient or that they cannot find it).

We had called the Malaysian Friendship and Trade Centre and told them that the letter they gave us was not accepted by the NVC (the letter was printed on the Centre's letterhead and it says they did a check of record), and they told us they never had any problem with it before and refused to do anything about it. In desperation, we contacted an old high school friend of my dad's and the friend's son in KL is helping us.

We have asked him to have my dad's birth certificate certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Putrajaya. Does anybody know if this would be acceptable to NVC? Or should we have it certified by "Commissioner of Oath" or National Registration Department?

Regarding the Letter of Good Conduct, this time we applied it at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and were told it will arrive in one or two months. Will we need to have it certified or translated (and by whom) before sending it to NVC?

Thank you in advance for answering.

Hie there,

To answer your questions: I think you may need to have your dad's birth cert certified by a Commissioner of Oaths. As far as I know I don't think the NRD certifies anything.

As for the Letter of Good Conduct, I hope you applied for it in English. If so, the Letter of Good Conduct sent to you should be in English, and as such, you won't need it to be translated. It does not need to be certified, either.

I could be wrong with my first info, so please be cautious :)

NatalieHC - you have another option available to you -

if you believe the documents are 'golden' from that office in Taiwan -

then

you need to call NVC back, get a supervisor, ask for 'eyeball review' to be initiated, and explain, in detail (over the phone) about the authenticity of these records from Taiwan, and the 'validity' of the issuing authority.

You may or may not get some 'good vibes' at NVC, with this method, as it really is 'hit or miss' - but - it's worth a shot.

Good Luck !

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Congratulations on your approval ! We All Applaud your accomplishment with Most Wonderful Kissies !

I called NVC but the person on the phone refused to help (would not escalate to supervisor) and just quoted whatever was on the notice. So I sent an email, explaining the situation and asked for supervisor review. While we waited, we paid one of my dad's high school friends to help us get the documents from Ministry of Foreign Affairs in KL (at least one month wait for the police certificate). Today we just received interview notice from NVC. On it, it indicates that they have received the police certificate (so I guess they are accepting the one from the Malaysian Friendship and Trade Centre in Taipei) but they request to see the original birth certificate at interview (which is fine with us; we just didn't want to mail it).

Now we are waiting Packet 4 to be delivered to my dad in Taiwan, before we make appointment for medical exam. Anybody know approximately how long that would take?

Hi to all Malaysians here!

I hope you all are doing great...Anyway, i am in the middle of AOS process from B2.

I would like to ask a few questions and hope that you all can help me up.

1) Is it ok for me to use my married name (greencard, SSN and DMV) here and still maintain my maiden name in my Malaysia passport and also everything else back in Malaysia?

2) Currently my AOS application is under my maiden name. Should i wait for 2 years to change to my married name when i apply for ROC? or should i do it after i get my GC?

Appreciate all your help and advice.

Thanks in advance.
