Hey Farah, how is AOS going for you? Enjoying the different lifestyle in the States? ;)

I'm so not looking forward to more paperwork, sheesh. Plus, I really do hope we make it in before any fee raises happen.

Hey,

All the paperwork is done, we're just waiting for the time to go get my shots transcribed by a civil surgeon. Actually, the AOS paperwork seems be much easier than K1, more forms but less additional stuff. You dont have to send in evidence of any relationship or meeting the past two years, just regular standard forms.

Its snowing now, waiting for spring to come so I can dress normal again and not like a bundled up popsicle. Life here is great aside from that, Ive adjusted well. If youre gonna miss your family, be sure to teach them how to skype as I contact mine regularly that way and have yet to go through the "i miss home" blues.

You can certify copies of passport and BC with a commisioner of oath.

As for translation of birth certificate WITHIN Malaysia, the US embassy wanted a translation done by a courthouse or attorney/legal firm. They would not accept self translations.

OUTSIDE US, according to VJ you should be able to translate your own documents and certify it yourself with an excerpt at the end of the translation as long as you are fluent in both languages (english and malay).

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...ge=translations

Keep in mind the Malaysian US embassy will not accept self certified translations.

A reminder to all to think about how many times you will need a certified copy of your passport, birth certificate etc once in US for things like social security number and other goverment official stuff. Bear this in mind and make as many copies as you can afford to bring with you to US. This also goes for translation of birth certificate and/or marriage certificates. Get them translated in Malaysia and bring as many copies with you as you can.

To certify each copy of anything at a Commisioner of Oaths, all it cost me was 2 bucks per page.

thank you very much for the information.. i hope is not too late. Just want to share my experience to get birth cert translated with the malaysian members here...

My translation journey was pain in the butt... first, Malaysia Embassy did not reply my email. So, it is best to call them straight. They will recommend someone to do the translation for you with a minimal fees. The guy they recommended for me is En Azahari (apparently only 1 guy). Malaysia Embassy lady told me to scanned my original birth cert and email to En. azahari. En. Azahari normally dont reply his email. It took me about 5-6 emails for a duration of 3 weeks before he finally reply to me. En. Azahari will get it notarised for us too.

Also not all public notary will notarised our documents even though we have the original. For example, the notary public in Troy NY just didnt want to it even though i printed out what was writen in the USCIS website that we can translate ourselves.

Thanks for your response. May I ask if the only reason why you wanted to visit US on B2 at that time was to visit your boyfriend? Did you have other reasons that you included in your form?

Hello.. i hope it is not too late to share my experience here.

when i apply for my B2, i stated in my form as visiting friends and tourism. I did not mentioned that i was visiting my boyfriend. Before my turn for the interview, i overheard a conversation a girl before me with the interviewer officer. She mentioned that her reason is visiting her bf and she got rejected. Hence i told the interviewer that i am visiting my friends.

The interviewer did try to trick me by asking will i be staying in my bf's house in usa? ( which i corrected him that he is purely my friend)

He then only look at my pay slip. He didnt ask for anything else. All the fix deposit, car, insurance and whatever documents i have in my hand, just not being use but it is better to prepare everything in advance because we will never know.

I hope this will help. Have a good eye contact with the interviewer and be confident. Then you will be fine.

Good luck ya

HI! I finally received the P4 with the appointment date!! So happy!

The interview is going to be on June 3rd. Do you know how long does it normally take for us to get the visa after the interview?

My fiance is gonna be here in early June for a visit (we planned this before we got the appt letter) and he has already bought the ticket! Do you think that the visa will be approved and with me by June 11th? If yes, I'd love to go back to the states with him then.. but then we also need to buy the flight tickets and you know how expensive it is if we buy last minute... should we just get the flight tickets, you think?

Any feedback is appreciated.. Thanks!

Hello!

I'm glad I found this thread, my Malaysian fiancee and I are applying for the K1, currently waiting for NOA2. While we're waiting, there's nothing wrong with going ahead and applying for the Police certificate, and getting the Birth certificate translated, right? I looked at earlier posts and noticed we can't do our own translation within Malaysia, but can we let a third party translate and certify that they're able to translate even if they're not attorney or courthouse? It seems like a pain to try to get that one guy the embassy recommends to do it...

Our packet is at the Kuala Lumpur Embassy and my honey will be calling them in the morning to verify everything. I can't believe how fast this process has been. We are talking about Booking her flight here so we can get a lower fare. I guess we are pretty confident, or maybe a lot of wishful thinking but so far this whole process has been smooth thanks in no small part to the great people at Visa Journey.

My Honey and I were praying that she could get here by August as a best case senerio and now that seems like a worst case...

I got my Packet 3 last week. ;-) Waiting for financial documents from my fiance and the Birth Cert translation.

Did you guys have to go in person to get it translated? Or did you fax it?

Also, I got my letter of good conduct BUT they addressed me as MR. instead of MS.! Incompetent! I'm not sure if it will matter to the embassy but I'm trying to get it corrected.

Bsze,

What are those dates...

NVC received, NVC left, consulate received...

in your signature?

How do you know those details? What are they? Should I have gotten them too?

My fiance got his NOA2 and I got the Packet 3 in the mail. And that's it.

After you receive the NOA2, the USCIS center will forward your packet or case file to the National Visa Center. Here, there could be additional processing before the NVC forwards it to the consulate. Many people make it out of there in a few days, while others could be stuck there for a few weeks or even a month because of AP. Apparently, the NVC makes random checks.

BUT, if you've gotten packet 3 in the mail, that means you've made it in and out of the NVC pretty quickly without even knowing it!

As for the MR/MS part, the US embassy in Malaysia is pretty relaxed and the staff courteous. In my humble opinion, it shouldn't be a problem. There was a misspelling in the translation of my birth certificate and they didn't even notice. If it bothers you, you could just explain to them. I have a sneaky feeling they might even be very aware of Malaysian public servants and their... weaknesses. ;)

Just send in packet 3 ASAP to get an interview date quickly. Also, I saw that you're having your marriage ceremony real soon (August this year?). Because you're having a ceremony BEFORE coming to the States, please be noted that the US embassy may not be entirely happy about it and MIGHT choose to deny your visa if they have any cause to believe it's a legal binding marriage here. This is because if you get legally married here before you return to the States, you become ineligible for the K1 visa and must get a spousal visa instead. I've read about other people getting denied or were hassled by the US embassies in their respective embassies because they had their receptions/traditional weddings before going to the States. However, those embassies have been known to be a little stricter because of the countries they are based in. That being said, I'm not sure what kind of advice to give you except to be very careful and honest when answering questions during the interview.

How many copies of notarized Birth certs and passports should I bring to the US for the rest of the Visa procedure?

I called to change my name on my Letter of Good Conduct and Ms. Umi was very unhelpful. She says the fax machine is too far away for her to check for my fax and instead she wants me to mail the original copy back to her with ANOTHER self addressed stamped envelope. I might just not bother.

Also, the Translation Institute's contact info has changed.

Here's the number I used:

Institut Terjemah Negara Malaysia

Tel: 03-4149 7210

E-mail: alia@itnm.com.my

She told me to e-mail a scanned copy of my birth cert to her and she will send me a quotation. Hopefully I don't have to make a trip there.
