I think I got an attorney's "endorsement" on them. My sister works in a legal firm and her boss just stamped and signed on my copied passport and IDs.

Cheers..

Hi,

For the certificate of Good Conduct, they ask for

"Certified" copies of IC and Passport.... What does "certified" mean? I have access to a copied at work. Will that do? Or do I have to go to an official government copier place... like at the IC/Passport department.

How did you do it?

Thanks! :-)

I could be wrong but you may not need a certified or official translator. I have read in many other cases that anyone with fluency in the language can translate for you and write an affidavit that he/she is competent in both languages (English and Malay), to be attached together.

If not, you can try contacting.. umm.. maybe the courthouse and see if they have any resources.

All the best.

Cheers.

You can certify copies of passport and BC with a commisioner of oath.

As for translation of birth certificate WITHIN Malaysia, the US embassy wanted a translation done by a courthouse or attorney/legal firm. They would not accept self translations.

OUTSIDE US, according to VJ you should be able to translate your own documents and certify it yourself with an excerpt at the end of the translation as long as you are fluent in both languages (english and malay).

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...ge=translations

Keep in mind the Malaysian US embassy will not accept self certified translations.

A reminder to all to think about how many times you will need a certified copy of your passport, birth certificate etc once in US for things like social security number and other goverment official stuff. Bear this in mind and make as many copies as you can afford to bring with you to US. This also goes for translation of birth certificate and/or marriage certificates. Get them translated in Malaysia and bring as many copies with you as you can.

To certify each copy of anything at a Commisioner of Oaths, all it cost me was 2 bucks per page.

I'm not entirely sure about this, but one would suppose a notary public in the States would be able to do that as well. As long as you produce the originals with the photocopies, they can easily verify that the photocopies are not forged. My fiance had some of our documents verified by a notary public. But anyone interested in doing this should, of course, check to see if they authorized to do it. I'm not sure what the scope of their abilities are.

I'm glad I already have a SSN, so that's one less headache.

Thanks for the tip Farah!

So you just make your own copies and then get the Commissioner to stamp/sign it? Or do we make copies at the Commissioner's office?

I'm gonna do that tomorrow and fly to the US tomorrow night for a 3 week visit! Can't wait!

Hie fellow Malaysians! :D

This is my first post on VJ ever. So far I have only been lurking, haha.

Anyway, I will ask my questions quickly: When you guys applied for the B2 visa to visit your boyfriend/girlfriend (at that time) in the US, what did you tell the immigration officer? Did you say you were going to visit your boyfriend/girlfriend? If you didn't, but then they asked you "do you have a boyfriend or girlfriend?", what was your answer?

Thanks so much in advance! :)

December 2009 -- Visit to Malaysia.

February 2010 -- Applied for B2 visa, approved.

March 2010 -- Visited US.

April 2010 -- Returned from US.

May 2010 -- Sent in K1 Visa application.

July 2010 -- Received NOA2 in 71 days from NOA1.

July 2010 -- Packet 3 received.

August 2010 -- Cancellation of K1 Visa application.

When I applied for B2, I was honest and mentioned boyfriend. You should not lie to an immigration officer as it might have negative repercussions on your record for any future immigration benefit you seek. Some people have been banned as a result of lying to IO at the borders between Canada and US, so be careful.

Congradulations and safe journey to you. Dont forget to bring the stuff that cant be found here and bring along your copy of vaccination record for AOS later.

And dont open the secret envelope!

Thanks for your response. May I ask if the only reason why you wanted to visit US on B2 at that time was to visit your boyfriend? Did you have other reasons that you included in your form?

Yes, it was the primary reason although I did mention visiting places in detail as well.Unfortunately, the CO was very rude and interupted my answer to the question of "Why do you want to visit US?" All I got to say before I was interupted was "To visit my boyfriend-" before she shot another question and didnt bother listening to my reply. I forgot to mention that my B2 got denied a year before we applied for K1 on the ground of 'insufficient ties' to home country. Having a job, family and a title to a house there apparently didnt matter much. I firmly believe that she had made up her mind to deny before the interview and me answering questions was just a formality. Fyi, single women/men visiting boyfriends, fiances, husbands/wives in US is a big hurdle to overcome as their first assumption would be you would go there and stay there illegally.

On the plus side, the fact that my hubby's name/then boyfriend and was fiance was probably on their records for the denied B2 probably left a positive impact in proving the validity of our relationship since nothing had changed.
