I submitted my documents on Friday morning at Wisma Putra. Here's some information to help others when undergoing this process. If the moderator or main OP can include this info at the first post, it would be helpful for future references.

TIP

Begin applying for the Certificate of Good Conduct before or immediately after submitting the K1 visa package. The process takes 1-2 months.

NOTICE

"Pleased be informed that applications for Certificate of Good Conduct should be made by online only, starting from 1st January 2011. Applications can be made via Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Website www.kln.gov.my under e-Consular

IMPORTANT!

  • You can no longer submit the printed forms. They will immediately return/reject your application.
  • You must submit an online application via their website.
  • Create an account using your passport (Foreigners / P.R.) / NRIC (Malaysians).
  • Make a note that purpose of the application is for 'U.S. Immigration Visa'
  • There is a high chance your e-application form will not be able to be printed (their system is faulty).
  • It is ideal if you submitted your forms in person at Putrajaya.
  • If you decide to post, ensure that you include a cover letter explaining what the documents are for : submission & the online transaction code).
  • There is just one computer there for public use at Wisma Putra. You can do last minute application or check your status. The queue is long due to lengthly application process and users who are unfamiliar with computers.
  • Go early. Bring your PASSPORT and NRIC. No passport, no application.

PROCESS

  • Line-up outside guardhouse to obtain security passes and a Green Exit Form (to be submitted after). Guards will take your NRIC.
  • Go into the main building and line up outside the front desk. Here at 8.30, staff will check your forms and give you a number.
  • Go into the seated waiting room.
  • Submit documents at Counter 3.
  • Wait 15-30 minutes.
  • Counter 4 will call you and provide you with a receipt A4 size.
  • Ensure you check your status online that it is currently "In Progress"
  • Wait 1-2 months.

Thank you for the useful information! My fiancé just received his Certificate of Good Conduct 2 weeks ago--glad we were able to check something off the to-do list! It took about 10 weeks to receive the certificate after he applied for it.

I'm headed from cold Minnesota to hot Malaysia tomorrow! I'm so excited to see my fiancé again and eat all of the delicious food that Malaysia has to offer.

Oh, but I do miss nasi lemak.

The farmer's almanac predicted 50 inches of snow for Minnesota this month! So it might get colder

Is there any good place to get Malay food in MN? I have heard of only one Malay restaurant, but I have never been there since I am always coming back to Malaysia for the real deal. I know my fiancé will miss nasi lemak terribly when he has to leave Malaysia.

My parents are visiting Malaysia for the first time ever today and I am very excited! I am wracking my brain to think of all the best places to take them.

(Btw, someone please scold me if we aren't supposed to chat about things other than visa stuff here. I will shut up!)

Actually, it's a little known fact that as the weather warms up, more snow falls. That is because if it's too cold, the moisture is trapped in the atmosphere and cannot form snow. That is why historically, March is the snowiest month of the year. ;) My husband who is a lifelong Minnesotan taught me this. I've been here a few years myself and have noticed it.

I tried Peninsula's (down in Minneapolis) nasi lemak and found it sorely lacking. Lumpy rice, tasteless sambal... I heard of another Malaysian restaurant there called ChinDian. Apparently, they have very good food. But I've never been there YET. Alternatively, you could learn to cook nasi lemak. It's not very difficult. :)

Oh that's interesting, Bsze! I am also a lifelong Minnesotan but I never thought about the temperature + snow connection. I just know that both cold weather and snow make me cranky!

You're right, I should just try to learn how to cook it. Peninsula's was the only Malay restaurant I had heard of, but I'll have to try ChinDian when I get back.

*joins food feast* Is there some way I can get ayam goreng spicy at USA McDonald's? :D :D It is my biggest guilty pleasure here! I am going to KLIA early today just so I can go to McDonald's before my parents' flight arrives.

Coincidentally, I have been having Nasi Lemaks almost 3 times a week now. Preparing for the inevitable lack of nasi lemak in my future diet. There is just something about the knotted pandan-leaf soaked in rich coconut milk rice, and a sambal that stirs up fond memories from childhood or early morning warmth in the tummy before office hours begin. Oh, Nasi Lemak - an ode to thee.

I haven't tried any Malaysian restaurants in the States yet, though I've come across one or two in Boston. I am pessimistic that it won't be the same.

At least I have an agenda to fill up my time and tummy while I wait out my current delay; courtesy of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

What other Malaysian food do you miss? I think I might miss the Ramlee Burger and Satay. Oh, the other time when I was in Pittsburgh, I came across this Indian grocers that had Malaysian Roti Canai (Prata) brand. It amused me a lot as I often see it in the freezer sections in Tesco's or Giant.

My husband loves it too! He tried it for the first time when he came to visit and it became the only thing he ordered. I've looked for it in the States but no luck. :( My family was quite surprised that he loves spicy food (their perception of White people being unable to tolerate spice and all), but he jokes it's the only way one can stay warm in MN. Hahaha.

Coincidentally, I have been having Nasi Lemaks almost 3 times a week now.

I'm so jealous! I had it almost every day when I was back. My mother joked that I would develop heart disease because of how much I ate it. But living in small town USA makes one resourceful; I've had to learn how to make many Malaysian food. It's that or drive at least 4 hours for only somewhat Authentic food. But you'll never know if you don't try! Plus, there is a significant Malaysian population on the East Coast, so perhaps the restaurants in Boston might surprise you! :)

I have my AOS interview on March 10! Finally! :) :)

Did you have to have your shots transcribed by a Civil Surgeon for the interview?

Also it says, petitioner's Birth Certificate and your petitioner's evidence of United States Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Resident Status.

If he has a US Birth Certificate, that takes care of both right?

Also, I need to register my marriage with the Malaysian Embassy. What photo size will they want? Malaysian? and on blue background? Where should I go to get that?

Goodluck on your interview!!!

Mmm, had some delicious chicken rendang this week. I think I am going to take Bahasa Malaysia classes at the YMCA here to pass the time. The language seems simple enough that I could actually make some progress after taking only a few short courses.

I have emailed the US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur with some questions and they have responded immediately. I'm taking that to be a good sign that this will be a great embassy for the interview!

Hope all the Malaysian VJers are doing well!

Learning Bahasa Malaysia is quite easy. I tried to teach my husband before but until now he only remember "Sayang, jahat, gila"

I actually bought chicken rendang instant paste in whole food. It's actually taste very good

My husband and I just bought plane tickets today for June 4th. I'm really excited. It has been more than a year I live in S.F. This year I have to skip summer class because I miss Malaysia so badly and I want to go home for a month :D

Have you been to Perhentian Island? We went there before and we plan to go there again. We stayed in Tunabay Resort and I really like the resort. It's very cosy and the price is affordable :luv:

Have fun learning Bahasa Malaysia :D

Oh congrats on getting the tickets! I am hoping to go to Bali on June 1 and then return to Malaysia after about 5 days there--wish me luck!

Yeah, I went to Perhentian last August. We stayed at Bubu resort and it was amazing! I got so sunburned but it was worth it to have a chance to go snorkeling during the day and enjoy fresh seafood at night for dinner. We were going to go to Langkawi but decided to go to Perhentian instead. I am so happy--I much prefer the quiet, romantic type of vacation.

Thanks for wishing me luck with the language! My fiancé is really jealous--he has been living here for almost 6 years and doesn't speak much Bahasa. He wants to take a class too but has no time because of his job.
