Hi tenshiswife,

Your first question, I actually just sent my passport to embassy to renew and I asked them this question:

Dear Sir,

I'm using my married name for my SSN and Green Card. So, I'm just wondering, for new passport application form, do I need to put my married name under question A (2) Nama lain (Jika Ada)?

Thanks,

Nurul Nadiana

and they reply me:

Dear Nurul,

Yes, you may put your other name under "nama lain" but it would NOT be official if you do your new passport in Malaysia unless you request for that name to them to be official from the immigration department in Malaysia and Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara.

Thank you.

I have my AOS interview on March 10! Finally! :) :)

Did you have to have your shots transcribed by a Civil Surgeon for the interview?

Also it says, petitioner's Birth Certificate and your petitioner's evidence of United States Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Resident Status.

If he has a US Birth Certificate, that takes care of both right?

Also, I need to register my marriage with the Malaysian Embassy. What photo size will they want? Malaysian? and on blue background? Where should I go to get that?

01/24/2010 : I-129F sent

01/28/2010 : NOA1

04/27/2010 : NOA2

05/17/2010 : P3 received

05/26/2010 : P3 sent

06/23/2010 : P4 received

07/29/2010 : Interview ~ APPROVED!

07/30/2010 : Visa in hand

AOS approved... but didn't keep track of the dates etc.

I didn't have an interview, but we got our shots transcribed anyway to avoid an RFE. Apparently, some people make it through just fine without the I-693 form from the civil surgeon, while others have been RFEd for it. So, it might be a safer bet to do it? :)

Also, (according to the embassy's website) in order to register one's marriage, the couple must appear at the embassy itself. They must also do so within 6 months of the marriage to avoid a fine. I just found that out and we're past that, so I'm wondering what to do next.

Abt registering in embassy, I had it done with usa passport photo size (white background) there is a place nearby the embassy that have a service they take blue background in nyc. I have the address somewhere but I need time to look for it. I will post the address tomorrow. About the fine, I have a friend who live in boston. Husband and wife are malaysian. They got married in usa in 2006 but did not register their marriage in our embassy here. They registered it 2 years later (2008) in penang malaysia when they went back that for visit. So, I'm not so sure how much/strict they follow the rules.

I just asked my friend who got married in 2008 if she registered. She said they called the embassy a few times to make an appointment (per the website) to register their marriage. But she could not get anyone to give her one. So she said she gave up. She lives in New Jersey, so traveling to NY would be easier for her too.

But, I live in Minnesota and I don't want to go all the way to Washington or NYC just to register our marriage. We don't have the time or the money currently. I wish they would let us do it via mail since it's easier. Maybe I'm just too optimistic.

i had a walk in to register my marriage cert with my husband last year I in NYC. At first i called to make an appointment but they said i can do a walk in. Make sure your husband bring his passport and birth cert. My husband do not have a passport because he lost his when we tried to register. Apparently his birth cert was not enough to prove that he is an american. they make us to go to notary public to certify that he is an american which i end up arguing with them because birth cert should be enough and they confirmed with me it is good with birth cert on the phone when i first call to check with them. Nevertheless, at the end, they let us registered as well.

To renew the passport, they definitely need a blue background pics. i saw a guy in Malaysia embassy in nyc help to take passport pics for whoever that walk in to renew their passport early in the morning when i was there to register my marriage cert. there is this place near the embassy do take pics with blue background. i got the address from the embassy but i never try the service there.

The address is as per below.

I am having the most frustrating experience with regards to obtaining the Police Certificate (Certificate of Good Conduct / Sijil Kelakuan Baik) here in Malaysia!

This lady named "Umi" who is the main person in charge of that department in Wisma Putra is terribly rude.

I got a shock when I realised in January 2011 that the process would take 1-2 months. I am currently the beneficiary for the K1 visa (I-129F). So hurriedly, I gathered all the documents required.

I applied online (kln.gov.my) but towards the end the system could not generate or print the receipt. So, I found a printed form on their website and filled that up. Attached my photos and accompanied that package as per their instructions. Certified copies of my passport, MyPR ID, Letter from the Employer, money order for RM20 and a self-addressed envelope. I posted this immediately via PostLaju.

I called the following week on 27 Jan, 3.45pm to inquire about the status. The lady asked for my ID number. So I gave it to her. She then said that it did not exist in their system and my documents have not been received. She asked me to re-submit it in person instead. Their office is very far away in Putrajaya. I called back again and said perhaps they needed my passport number.

She then told me off, "Jangan berlagak jadi orang Malaysia!" (Don't pretend to be Malaysian) in a harsh tone. I explained calmly that I am a Permanent Resident here, and she changed the subject. She then said they have received my documents and will process it the following day and to call back a month later.

Today, being nearly a month to date. I called and she told me that she need not my information to check the status as she goes by the date of submission. And said that period was not due. I then found in my mail later, that the Department of Foreign Affairs (Consular Division) had returned EVERY SINGLE DOCUMENT I submitted last month! A letter attached said that they no longer accept printed forms beginning mid-Jan. And this however, was NOT stated on their website.

I called that lady back to seek further clarification. She just responded (in Malay), "How would I know? I am not the one who opens the mail. Those people (her staff) aren't trained or anything". Wow. I asked her what should I do next. She said I have to go personally and submit the documents again at Counter 3 in Wisma Putra. I asked again how long would this take (since this screw-up was their fault). And she yelled at me saying "You orang Foreigner sepatutnya baca!" (You foreigners should READ). Double WOW. I couldn't take it anymore so I told her off, "Jangan memperli aku" (Don't be condescending!). I was seeking clarification. She said it will still take 1-2 months from that date of submission.

Basically, I have wasted a month waiting for nothing because the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs royally screwed-up my application. I would forgive their lack of accountability and responsibility in their roles, but being rude as well as somewhat racist; I think this is terribly in bad taste. Tomorrow, I would have to apply for leave and go all the way there just to do the whole thing again.

At the back of my mind, I am worried because I am due to receive the package from the US Malaysian Embassy. I am concerned that I might not have the Police Clearance documents in time for the interview. Would the Embassy re-schedule the interview at a later date?

Sigh. I feel absolutely terrible.

I'm so sorry to hear that. My police certificate also takes almost 2 months. In fact, I called them for follow-up every week after a month of waiting. I also got scold from one of the people who work there but I continue being polite since I need that cert badly. I have to go to Putrajaya to pick up the cert because it will takes a week for me to receive by post and my interview is next 2 days. Just be patient, ya?

Hi NadianaPaul

Thanks for your reply. It is comforting that I am not alone in this whole ordeal. By the way, how did the embassy schedule the interview?

Do they send the package to you and is the interview date pre-determined then? Or do you submit the package 3 and they will inform you later? I am mostly worried because at this rate I am unsure if I can get the certificate on time.

Also, how long was the interview schedule from the day you've received the package? Thanks!

Good luck with the interview! Please let me know how it went.

Hi Yamashitariki,

Well, they will send you the interview date in the package 4.

I thought my K1 visa will take 6 months+ to process and I was shocked that I received package 3 very fast. I reply package 3 after a few wees because I'm trying to buy the time. Maybe you should do the same. Look at my timeline and you can see how long it takes for package 3 received/sent and package 4.

Good luck with the interview? I already had the interview last December. It went very well. You can read others reviews regarding their experience with US embassy Malaysia Consulate Reviews

Hi There,

Sorry to hear about your experience in getting the certificate of good conduct ( police clearance)in Malaysia. I waited almost 1 month to have my police clearance, though I started calling them to follow up on my 2 weeks of submission to make sure everything are fall into place.I agreed, some of them not really trained how to deal properly and professionally on the phone but too bad for them I am not easily discourage by their attitude maybe I have too much patience and calmly manners in dealing with them as I needed the document badly. Luckily, or company liaison officer help me to submit it and could be he knew some people there as he always interacting or doing some business matters with them through the company. I believe it helps a lot on my part to make thing smoothly. I got my police clearance 3 days earlier than I expected for a month..so I rushed to picked up the police certificate the next morning as I can't wait to our liaison officer to pick up for a week later as scheduled by the company.

Be patience and hope things will go smoothly for you at this time.:-) I do undertand your sentiment as we are in the same shoes as a foreigner and working in KL for 3 years and can't understand & speak the local language so it was really a bit tough on my side, asking in English and getting a replied in Malay..gooshh! but finally I got want I needed.

Hope this will help you...stay calm...things will fall into place.:-) Good Luck on your Journey...:-) I wish my timeline will help you.

Want to say hello to the people on this thread

Sorry to hear you ladies having a hard time getting the certificate of good conduct. The best way is still to go in person to the counter in Putrajaya. The people at the counter aren't any nicer but you get results. It didnt take me long to get it when I go in and ask for that. Not right there and then, i think i had to either come again that afternoon or on another day (this was back in 2008) but it sure beats being unsure of the outcome if I chose to obtain it online.
