Hi,

I applied for AOS on April 6th. I received CRIS update last week that my AP application was approved. The notice was sent on May 22nd. In the meantime my dad who has been very ill for some time now, suddenly ended up in the Intensive Care Unit and his state is considered very serious. I would like to fly back home ASAP so I can see him. My question is: how soon after the AP approval notice, does the actual travel document arrive? Please, let me know about your experience. I am not sure if it even makes sense to request the emergency AP if the original application got approved and all that is missing is the travel document.

Has anyone applied for the emergency AP and received it on the the same day or shortly after? I am not sure what to do.... Every day I wait for the mail, I risk not being able to see my dad again. Please, advise.

I thought emergency APs were the sorts of things you walked into the office, and walked back out with it in your hand. Call your local office and find out? Maybe they can give you a hard copy of your actual AP faster.

Sorry to hear about your father. Hope that things work out.

It took ours almost 2 weeks after it was approved. But you can make in Infopass appointment and get it the same day in this case.

Our case went very fast however, we got the AP last week and had our interview today and was approved. They stamped my wife's passport with I-551 and took back the AP. Told her see could travel with that stamp in passport, it's the same a GC until it arrives in a couple of weeks.

Is there any reason why she couldn't just leave now and have her husband courier the AP document when it arrives? The approval date on the AP will be a date before she left the US.

~ Catherine

Thank you everyone for your responses. Based on your timelines it does seem like I should be getting it any day now. As to Catherine's suggestion, does anyone know the answer to this?

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

i have tried to find previous posts relating to this as i am sure i have read of someone having AP approved but not getting the card through before they needed to leave the US. The card was couriered by family member ready for the return journey to the US.

Hope everything works out for you and you manage to get back to Poland to see your Dad.

Local offices can issue emergency APs. You could make an infopass apointment and take your printout of the approved AP. You should get the AP in the mail any day now. It is also possible your husband could send it to you. You do not need it to leave, only to return. But that would be a lot of trust in the mail system. Your call.

I owuld go for an infopass apointment if I could. In our local office we can get them on 1-2 days notice, not sure about your local office.

Don't wait for the mail, go to your local office as others have suggested. Our AP was issued on 4/15 and we didn't receive it until 5/26.

I received my AP today! I am flying home tomorrow night. Thank you everyone for your replies! Is the passport and AP the only things I should bring with me? I will have my marriage certificate too, since my passport is in my maiden name. Thanks again.
