EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - Police released new details at a press conference Wednesday afternoon about the beating death of an Evansville man.

It all happened early Wednesday morning after Richard Wroten, 38, called Evansville police just before 1:30 a.m. and told them he had witnessed a murder.

Police met with Wroten, who led them to the crime scene on West Iowa Street.

He told police his friend, James "Crazy Horse" Paul, had gone to the victim's house, broke in and then beat 50-year-old Charles Herbert Burns Junior with a crowbar, hitting the victim between 30 to 50 times until he died.

Investigators said this particularly heinous crime apparently was brewing for a week after the suspect claimed the victim stole his bicycle.

"That's a problem, or was a problem for the suspect," Evansville Police Sgt. Larry Nelson said. "He left his own apartment, went several blocks to another apartment, talked to the witness then left there and had to go two or three more blocks to a house that he entered, so that's not sudden heat to me."

James "Crazy Horse" Paul, 54, was arrested by police on charges of murder, burglary and robbery.

On Thursday, the witness, Wroten, was also arrested. Wroten also faces charges of murder, burglary and robbery.

Police said Wroten may have also hit the victim, 50-year-old Charles Herbert Burns, Jr.

Evansville police said Paul served eight years in a Tennessee prison for manslaughter and 20 years in Indiana for fraud, forgery and trespassing charges.

He was out on work release.

Paul is being held without bond.

The men will make their first court appearance Thursday morning.

And the woman who killed her father over biscuits on Memorial Day was just blocks away from me. This is a f##cked up world.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Aptly named and sure to piss off American Indians to boot.

A lifetime loser with that kind of record. Who does serious jail time for trespassing?

The prison system regularly churns out cons who kill for cigarettes or "disrespect" in prison then releases them. No matter- we can only discuss waterboarding 3 terrorists while everyone else is irrelevant though they're all under the government's watchful (?) eye.

dark times

Passage Revelation 19:11:

11And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.

"satan is real and he's playing for keeps
God is realer and we are His sheep
which side are you on, CHOOSE, start moving your feet
choose JESUS and have ETERNAL PEACE" by GOD to me on 9/26/10 about 2am
Thank you Jesus!!!!

Reminds me of how my parents used the bicycle chain to beat me up. It was for good reason. Put me back into shape. But, it didn't kill me.

How about....there should never have been a ' reason ' in the first place.
