What is necessary to start the K-1 process?

Sorry for such basic questions, but I am new to this website and I will soon be meeting with my fiance for a week and I would like to start the fiance visa process. I want to make sure I bring all the necessary forms for her to sign to start the process while we are together. I understand that there is an I-129F form. Is this the only thing that I would need her to sign? Is form G-325 (Biographical Date) also filed with the I-129F? Is a signature necessary on this form? Are there any other forms she must sign to apply for the fiance visa? I understand that I must include her photo with my application? What are the requirements for the type of photo and number of copies? Lastly, will I be filing all of my documentation regarding proof of a relationship (photos, airline tickets, etc . . .) with the I-129F?

Thanks,

Tom

Read the K1 guides (link at top of page). They contain everything you need to know. Be sure to download the instructions for the I-129F and read those, as well.

12/15/2009 - K1 Visa Interview - APPROVED!

12/29/2009 - Married in Oakland, CA!

08/18/2010 - AOS Interview - APPROVED!

05/01/2013 - Removal of Conditions - APPROVED!

Thanks. Very useful. It appears I need only the I-129F and G-325. My fiance is a widow. Does her husband's death certificate need to be translated? She is Ukrainian. And it appears that the Affidavit of Support is used later in the process. Is that correct?

Thanks Again,

Tom

For forms you need the I-129F and G-325a for BOTH petitioner and benneficiary. You need more than just the forms though in your submission packet.

proof of marriage termination is required (divorce, anullment, death certificate). All documents submitted to the USCIS that are NOT in English needs to be accompanied by an ENGLISH translation.

Kiev will deal with the financial stuff come interview time.

YMMV

Is there any sort of certification required of the translator? Must I provide certification of the translation along with the translated death certificate?

any forms or official document you submit to the United States government must be translated into English with a certified stamp or seal, or statement from the translator, stating that he/she is fluent in both languages and that the translation is true and accurate...

Waitinggent,

The guides will give you information about paperwork. You'll see there is more to the process than just filling out forms (read through the instructions, not just look over the forms). On the top of this K-1 forum, you'll see the place to click: Pinned: attachicon.gifGeneral K1 Guides and Info - once you click on that, look through the lists: Assembling the I-129F Package: Checklist and

Documentary Proof of Having Met in Person in the Past Two Years and an Ongoing Relationship

those two lists will let you know everything you will need to get started.

Make sure while you are visiting your SO, that you get plenty of pictures of the two of you together - you'll need them for the process. Also, get in the habit of saving things that will help show a relationship - phone bills, mail, etc. I find it helpful to have a specific place to store these things - not just for the visa process, but for the other steps that you'll do later.

Also, make sure to look through others' posts - you can get some good ideas and plenty of information.

Best of luck!

I have already sent in my K1 application, but look at this site: It might be worth it to go here than to go thru the headache. I wish this was around when I was doing it:

http://www.k1visahelper.websiteworks.com/

The above is a total scam. It doesn't take anywhere near $130 to put together the petition. I just put a single binder clip (cost- significantly less than 10 cents and actually free for me given that I stole mine from work) on my petition and put it in a flat-rate envelope (cost- $0.00 at the post office). If you exclude the cost of making photocopies and the USCIS fee, two things that this guy doesn't cover, you can easily put together the petition for less than $1.00.
