"Copy" required for the forms.

Hello everyone, happy day to you all.

I'm sitting here reading instructions and filling out forms and a moment of panic hit me. When the instructions say "copy" of birth certificate, passport, etc.

Do they mean a photocopy or do they mean a certified copy from the issuing office. For instance, when it asks for copy of petitioners birth certificate, can I go to kinkos and make a copy and use it, or should I call the department of vital records and get an official copy?

I just don't want to get it returned saying I should have used officials if I use photocopies.

When they say Copy of whatever document, they simply mean you should make a photocopy from your printer or Kinkos like you suggested. They don't mean you should certify it.

certified copy would be the best, but a copy is ok.

Photocopies are acceptable, but you should be prepared to bring the originals for the interview

Photocopies are fine. I sent in only copies with my AOS application. No problem arose.

there is a bit on the USCIS website that specifically states they NO LONGER require originals or certified copies in the AOS package - regular photocopies are fine. this is probably because you will be required to bring originals to the interview (so make sure you have a certified copy or original or your birth cert. etc. for that).
