Its true I mean all that has happened is that women got the right to get an education, get a respectable job and then what? They still have to give birth, cook (even those who don't have the responsibility of buying/bringing some sort of food if not for the family, but only for the kids) and then there is a home maintainence stuff even if it means vacuuming once a month. My husband shares the work with me but really, all that happened was women still have to do the same hard work AND they work outside. Double the strain and unhappiness and its just like a lose lose situation because beign without rights and personal freedom is altogether another h@ll to live in which I would never want to but I see that being raised here, unlike my Bangladeshi counterparts who have husbands that work, housemaids (you don't have to be rich to have housemaids in Bangladesh) and never washed a dish in their life, even though they don't have a separate income, they aren't going shopping any less then I am, whereas I have to do eveything here, as do most women in Western nations AND work outside the home. More time, more responsibilty, more hard work equals more strain...so of coarse while those women who live at home in other countries that represent the earlu 1900's in the U.S (I know many many women of non-Western countries work hard! My grandmother was never found resting...) But what I mean is that those women are less stressed overall (I saw per my visit...they had evening walks almost every day, and had leisure time which i never seem to have). We women of modern western society are always on the run...and personally enjoy it because we have more control over our lives. Those evening walks they take maybe consist of complaints of not having personal income and freedom...but anyways its just that on top of a woman's duties, we have added on more and that's mainly why women nowadays are found to be less happy on the average, more stressed out and feel like they have less time for themselves.

When I was married before the divorce, my ex-wife suffered from the effects of Systemic Lupus, and therefore, I had to make our meals, cook our dinners, put the food away, wash the dishes, clean the house, to keep the ex-wife able to focus on working each day, happy and healthy.

My ex-wife wanted to make all of the decisions which would affect us (adoption), but when I wanted to take my time w/this decision, she wanted her divorce. "I can't work with you." was her reasoning. Then, out of nowhere, this Women's Studies major began citing Tina Turner, Margaret Mead, and made me out to be this OPPRESSIVE MALE. That's when I saw that Feminism isn't about equality, its about getting back at men - because we're not women. That's when I decided Feminism can't work in a Heterosexual relationship.

What would be the fundamental wrong on that? I just don't see it. If women have sought going out into the workforce; and their husbands decide/choose be the homemakers; how does that make them losers? I just don't get it.

It's funny you make that point, why is it (if you know) feminist will give respect to a House-husband... but not a house wife?

*be real now :)

I love being well-educated and having a great career. I love sharing 'household duties' with my husband. If my husband wanted to be the one to stay home with the kids, and I made more money, I'd be okay with it. Of course, I'm a teacher and he's a software engineer, so it's not the way it is :) I essentially raised my son on my own, and though I am proud of myself for doing so, if my husband and I were to have more kids, I will gladly work part-time or stay home.

I do NOT have a problem with a 'traditional' role. I wouldn't want to be forced into it though.

BUT THE QUESTION REMAINS, why are you less happy?

This was obviously a survey of married American women married to traditional men. Studies have shown that single women are happier than married women and that relationships in which both partners are feminist are happier. The latter is very true of my relationship with my husband. I'm lucky to have found him. There just aren't that many intelligent and evolved men to go around. If anything ever happened to him I'm certain I would never remarry because no one would measure up. ;)
