They would just ask you few questions from the I-485 applications, ask for your pay stubs or any other verification letter from employer, bank statements etc.

Bring as much you can plus copies of your documents.

AOS interview, Need Help

I am not a lawyer but I just did green card for my hb. Base on my experience:

They need to know if you have enough money to sponsor your wife. If you are self employed, you can bring your monthly incomes - for the past few months and the tax your filed - for the past few years. That should be adequate.

You wife needs to bring her birth certificate and the passport. The expired one probably does not matter but I am not sure. We brought a big pile of documents but the officer did not ask for all of them.

You need to take the documents requested in the letter with you (your birth cert., petition birth cert., marriage cert., etc.). Questions vary by case and IO. Some are simple, (ours on May 13, 2009 was a 1 question interview, how did we meet), others are more complex... they try to see that the couple is legit and residing together, etc. As a legit couplem, don't worry, you will do fine.

I received a notice that I will be having my I-485 initial interview :-).

What sort of questions will be asked from me and my husband? How do we prepare for this?

Thank you.

Hgida

I read that they will ask questions about the 2 of you. They will most likely separate the 2 of you and ask questions. Be prepared to present evidence when asked. I read that you must swear an oath to tell the truth.

They don't usually separate the couple in the initial interview. If they require a second interview (rare), they would probably separate the couple and see if their answers match. They only require a second interview if they suspect fraud, a greencard (aka "business") marriage.

Sonie,

I'm sure that you are trying to help but you should chime in if you aren't sure about what you're saying.

You will have to swear to tell the truth (no big deal), you might be asked for some couplehood evidence (joint statements, etc.). Separating the couple and asking questions is not usual.

This is rare. They won't do this unless they have reason to suspect that your marriage isn't legit. If they were to do this, it's my understanding that you would need to do a second interview.

On your interview letter is a list of everything you will need to bring. Bring it all, with copies. If you have any question on whether or not to bring something, bring it. Better to be safe than sorry. Our interview was very easy and smooth. The IO asked us about some of the info in our packet, where we were from, who wrote our affidavits, blah blah. Easy stuff. Be sure to bring pictures. Some IO's aren't interested, but most seem to be. Ours loved our picture books, and asked us a lot of questions about where they were. He then assured us that it was obvious we are a happily married couple. :D We were approved at interview. If they don't tell you whether you are or not, ask!

They do pay a lot of attention to how you interact together. If you really are happily married, it's obvious. ;) I know it's hard not to worry, it's nerve wracking! But for most, the interview goes very quickly and smoothly. Congrats and good luck!

The interview will all be about you and your hubby, like when was the wedding, how did the 2 of you met. The IO who interviewed me asks for my SS# phone number and address.

Initial Interview is THE interview. its just a term they use legally, just in case they suspect fraud and need you to come in for another interview(AKA STOKES Interview). Its OK, if you have not yet received your AP & EAD. You'll be receiving that in the mail since they are processed seperately, though filed concurrently. Most likely, you'll be told of the interview outcome when the interview is concluded. At time, such as in my case too, they tell you to wait for 30 days or so and a decision will be mailed to you. Physical GC takes about 1-2 months to arrive in the mail, if approved. Go to www.uscis.gov and create an account there. You will need your NOA receipt Number to see the status of you case online.
