I didn't know about the CR-1 before filing for a K1. When we got approved i found out about the CR-1, I called to the Embassy and did an inquiry about marrying and converting the K1 into a CR-1, and they say no. You have to start all over again. We didn't want to go thru all the process again. Was too late for that.

If we would have the chance to walk back thru the time, then CR-1 with our eyes close. It is the best option.

Don't feel bad YMR because you're the exception to the rule. Most embassies process CR1 visas just as fast as K1 and K3s except in the Dominican Republic. I've seen people say they've been waiting 3, 4, 5 years for an appointment with the embassy but they have to keep on waiting since there are so many people waiting in line and this is just for the CR1/IR1 visa.

So again, before deciding on which type of visa to file for, the best thing to do is do some research to find out how long the embassy they are going through is taking to assign interview dates. In your case a K1 was much better than the CR1.

I'm also confused. Just mailed in our I-130 about 6 weeks ago and received the NOA1. How exactly do you apply for the CR1 rather than the K3? I didn't see that option anywhere and was confused like Donna. Is it too late to file for the CR1?

In our case, we've been married nearly 3 years and I have already lived in the UK with my husband. Unfortunately circumstances decided I'd move back to the US ahead of him, and I wish we had not done it that way. I think it would have been easier to do a DCF while I was still there.

As John said in his earlier post, there is nothing else you need to do to get an IR-1 visa because you only need to file form I-130 and that's it. If you had wanted a K3 you would then have to file form I-129F, but it wouldn't make sense especially since you will be getting a 10-year green card instead of the Conditional 2 year one.

Just let the I-130 ride it all by itself and you'll be more than ok.

i wish i knew beforehand that we can file even my husband's passport are revoked. i thought we will be denied thats why we've waited for 8 months after our wedding... grrr its ok though there's always a purpose.

Well our petition took a whole year to be approved.

and then an entire 4 months to be sent to the NVC after approval and after we contacted the state senator to find out where our case is.

Something iw ould have done sooner is get senator involved within the first 6 months of USCIS stage when case was not approved and outside processing deadlines

If there is a bright side to the long USCIS delays, our relationship lasted for that year while the USCIS was playing with us. It was a long painful time for both of us, but we survived it. Do not believe my first marriage to a USC would have survived that wait, ex really rushed me to get married for a miserable life. Hopefully all will work out for all of you. But if you start looking for someone else during that long wait, may not be the right one for you.

I wish i would of known about visaJ too! I would have done the CR-1 initially.

I wish I knew about Visajourney, before we hired a lawyer.

My lawyer delayed my process rather then expidite the process.
