Translating documents

I am translating my husband's Birth Certificate for the AOS papers, and I don't know if I should attempt to format it in Word like it is done on the paper or just type it out plainly. Also, at the bottom there is a footer line and phrase that says something like "Working with the people to guarantee their identity." Do I write all that or just the facts? Also, with the "I certify that I am fluent in English and Spanish" bit, can I write that on a separate paper or what? Thanks for your help...gotta love VJ!

I had a friend of mine do it. He formatted it just like the original and translated every word on the page. We attached a separate sheet of paper saying that the document entitled ______ is a spanish to english translation of the document entitled ______. He then dated and signed it and included his address.

I am pretty sure this is okay...AOS still pending.

I also think you could say this on the actual translation as well.

It's suppose to be a "true and complete" translation.

So I would match it as much as possible, and show everything translated.

The clause you would use is:

Certification by Translator:

I (typed name) , certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and (type the foreign language) languages, and that the above/attached document is an accurate translation of the document attached entitled (name of document).

Signature ______________________ Typed Name _________________

Date ___________ Address _____________________

I translated my own guatemalan birth certificate and I tried to use the same format as they did, I also translated the stamps and all. If you want me to I can send it to you through email, send me a PM.

i paid to a translator for doing this and he translated everything in the birth certificate, including stamps and headings of the birth certificates, one for me and one for my son.
