It is OK to NOT have a set wedding date, how can you predict IF and When you get the K-1. All you need to provide at the interview is updated letters of commitment to marry within 90 days of entry to the USA.

Also an engagement party is also not expected. In our case we did not have an engagement party until after we had K-1 in hand, and this was with dealing with Guangzhou, one of the toughest consulates in Asia.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

An engagement party is not required, but it will be a strong bona fide evidence of your relationship especially when the party is expected in your culture.

If it's typical in your culture to have an engagement party then the CO may expect to see evidence of a party.

For those of us doing K1 in Vietnam it is the norm and not having one can be a cause for CO questioning.

Are you Muslim? If so, then an Islamic engagement ceremony is the cultural norm in Indonesia. If you've heard that they ask about the ceremony at the interview then I'm guessing the consulate considers it to be important, and they might give your application more scrutiny if you haven't had one.

I see in your other thread that you've just recently filed the petition. You still have time to arrange an engagement ceremony before the interview. Maybe you should consider it. Your fiancee's family might appreciate it, as well.

no she is not muslim she is actually hindu... but what we were planning on doing was actually having an engagement party after her visa is accepted because she told me she will not go over until we have an engagement party... so after she gets visa in hand then i will go over there have the engagement party and then she will come back with me

If you'd like to dramatically improve her chances of getting the visa then you might consider going over a little BEFORE her interview, having the engagement party, and then being there in Jakarta when she goes to the interview. From what I see on the Jakarta embassy reviews, it looks like they'll allow sponsors to attend the interview with the beneficiary. It also looks like she can do the medical, document review, and interview in 1 or 2 days.

Anyway, I don't know how much difference the party and your presence will make at the Jakarta embassy, but it makes a huge difference at the consulate in Vietnam.
