I often thought if there were a way to make the elderly and infirm productive members of society. Some way convert them into a commodity....that would raise their economic value.

Door greeters. It works at Walmart.

No it doesn't. They always stand in the way, can't get out of the way of my cart fast enough. I wish it was legal to hit them with my cart and maybe just drive it over them.

...and the ones that can't stand or talk...just drool and poop their pants? Can we make them bean counters?

Assisted living and then neglect them till they die.

Yes, waaaaaaaaaaay worse off, with their expenses scandals, and their enourmous debt, and oh yeah, their economic rating by a US bank

Count your blessings that you don't live like those suckers.

Sarcasm?

S&P is not a "US bank", it's a credit rating agency. And a very important one at that.

If the UK loses its top-tier 'AAA' sovereign credit rating, it's going to be a HUGE deal,

you better believe it. The cost of government borrowing would rise, foreign investors

would be forced to dump the pound, financial capital would start flowing out of the country,

incurring asset price declines and leading to another financial crisis... you know the rest.

100% of GDP is not a joke.

If.

(couldn't remember off hand what the agency was/thought bank, my bad)

This is a pretty big if: S&P says 1 in 3 chance that UK rating will be downgraded

India, gun buyback and steamroll.

That's from May 21.

S&P has since lowered them from stable to negative.

(if you'd have read a bit more of this thread, you'd have known that).

(I was the one who started the conversation on the UK and their AAA rating....Go back a couple pages ;) )

The UK outlook was cut from stable to negative but they still have their AAA rating. Going forward there is a 1 in 3 chance the S&P downgrades their AAA rating...

From the link:

Bullet point 1: S&P cuts UK outlook, says debt could near 100 pct of GDP

Bullet point 2: S&P says 1 in 3 chance that UK rating will be downgraded
