I am thinking about downloading all of the forms and filing myself instead of paying a lawyer for the K-1 Visa. Can people tell me what they have done, and what would be the best option? Thanks in advance for all your input!!

I hired a lawyer and I am regretting it. The forms are really easy and if you spend a few hours studying the guides on this website and following all the steps you will save yourself a lot of money and time. I still did all the forms myself and sent them to the lawyer, he just looked over them, charged me a lot, and then sent them to VSC.

My suggestion is do it yourself. Piece of cake and the people here on VJ will help you if you have any questions.

You are asking a question that will get a lot of NEGATIVE answers about lawyers on a board that is all about DIY immigrations.

Simply Google search Lawyers on VJ you will see.

All a lawyer does is give you a questioner for you to fill out, and the lawyer copies this to the G-325A, and I-129F, and CHARGES you to do this copying.

A Lawyer cannot make the process go any faster!

A Lawyer is good for cases where you may be dealing with something like an OVER-Stay of a prior visitors visa.

1-Read the guides

2-Download the forms

3-Fill out the forms and DYI

It is not the big deal, just double check everything and save the money for a trip to your SO.

DO IT YOURSELF!!!!!!!!!! The forms are SO easy and this visa journey web site will help you through it all! Most of us on here have realized with the help of others the process is much easier. The fees are already a little high, then having to hire a lawyer? If you have the time & energy, definitely consider doing it yourself :)

Do it yourself and read the guides here. You also don't have to download any forms you can get them all from USCIS. If you are in the U.S. they will send you up to five copies at a time of whatever you need. You can ask for more but only 5 at a time. I had "practice forms" and forms I just screwed up. So I ordered 15 I-129F's which comes with the biography forms 325's. I used some for my duplicate copies. Its absolutely free and they are up to date.

hi I used to help the california office to help translate for the INS, i was told that it is better of to file the paper work your self rather than having the lawyer get involve, when the lawyer gets involve it might lead the ins to think u might be doing some thing that is ............. unless there is a language barrier that u really need help on, other wise try not to have a lwayer involve.

Depends. You want to spend more and wait longer...hire an attorney!

Here is what happens...

1. They give you a "questionaire". This questionaire is nothing more the the I-129f and G-325a in a different format (NO attorney can fill those out without YOU giving all the answers. Duh!!! Then YOU will have to provide all the other documents for them to copy. So far what has the attorney done?

Now we get into his big job. his secreatry will COPY all the documents you provided and take your questionaire and insert the answers in the online I-129f and G-325a forms and PRINT them. Then they will sit on the attorneys desk until he looks at it, the he gives it back to the secretray and some days later she calls you. You go in, sign the forms and pickup your originals. Woo hoo! Of course had you done this yourself you would be $2000 or more richer and the petition would have already been received at the CSC or VSC instead of sitting on desks in attorneys offices. Sheeesh.

An attorney cannot do anything BUT cost money and slow the process.

If you simply cannot handle it yourself, seek out a qualified VISA SERVICE, they are cheaper, give much better service to people in this process and much more familiar with the process than immigration attorneys.

where is Gary... I am sure he has an opinion..

Voila!!!!!!!!!!!!! Je suis ICI!!!!!!!!!!!
