In my Junior year in college, I interned at a very small school here that teach children of Indian Tribal Leaders, Lawyers, Doctors, and Politicians. The kids must take a qualification exam before they are admitted. And, the kids from grade 5-12 must write reports every week. They have several different project every week.

These kids are smart as heck. They learned Microbiology in the 6th grade using laboratory microscopes. They freakin leaned the Kreb Cycle, Mitosis, Meiosis, Glycolysis, Protein Synthesis. They didn't stop there, they were doing stuff at the freaking high school level. These kids are monsters! I didn't teach but was acting more like a paralegal to the instructor (helping them out with prep).

I wouldn't be surprise one day if these kids would snap in college.

I know, but neighbors are much different today then when I was a kid. We live right next to a beautiful park....that has a sign saying no children under the age of 9 should be there without adult supervision. When I was 7, I could be gone for hours without my parents knowing my whereabouts beyond knowing that I was somewhere in the neighborhood. I think most parents in the neighborhood felt that their neighbors would look out for their kids. Now, if you do that, your neighbor calls CPS on you.

MY SON (especially for Alien, who probably still thinks I should be talking endlessly about my kid this and my kid that, but whatever) cycles to school on his own every morning. I don't worry that he will be kidnapped, stabbed, shot or molested on his way to and from school. My biggest fear is that one of the arsehole mum's who drive to school in the SUV's will run him over because of yapping endlessly on their cellphone.

I am not sure I get it then. You are saying that, underneath they do know, for example that taking the purse is wrong, but will bury that deep inside and articulate, to themselves and others the 'but I had to do it, because the person deserved it' type of reasoning?

no sister purple..it is developed young and they need no reason unless pushed(as it is internalized)..and their reasoning is childlike in nature and/or primitive....

Ok, so how then does that translate into a working knowledge of right from wrong? That is the part I am grappling with. Perhaps I am trying to put a square peg into a round hole?
