Hello Everyone,

I wanted to know if anyone was able to get a Driver's License in NJ before getting their Green Card? My wife came to US on a Fiancee Visa and after we got Married we applied for the AOS. She received her Social Security Card and Employment Authorization Card but the DMV of NJ is saying she needs her Green Card before she can apply for a Driver's License?

Does anyone have any information or tips on this?

Thank You as Always :)

Hi,

Same thing happened here when we applied for my Driver License before.. I already have 6 points ID that they require but they still asked for my Green Card. So we re-applied again last january when i recieved it.

Im also from NJ btw... as you can see :P .

Yeah, I found the whole 6 points of ID thing misleading. I thought I could get my driver's licence in NJ if I had those 6 points and a valid I-94. Not the case! They told me I needed my green card, even though it doesn't say that anywhere at all in their brochures or website. Other states aren't as strict, but I did try 3 different offices and got the same answer. Once I had my green card, it was easy. I had a Canadian driver's licence so I only had to do the written test. Good luck! btw, I did drive on my Canadian driver's licence until I received my NJ licence.
