I am going down to Fortaleza, Brazil in June to see my fiance. Should I bring down my paperwork such as my IRS transcripts, affidavit, etc? What kind of paperwork are they going to want? Will they ask for W-2's and/or bank statement or pay stubs? I already have my transcripts, w-2's, affidavit, and record of my employment. When the packet is sent out by the Consulate, does it only go to her in Brazil? I also looked at the doctors list on the State Dept. website and the closest certified doctor is in Recife, none in Fortaleza even though it is a big city. Is she going to have to travel to Recife for her doctor's visit or have they just not listed all of the doctors?

I waited until we had the interview date set before I sent any documents to Brazil. Of course it is your decision. It's been over a year since I went through the K-1 process, but what I remember is that I sent copies of my 1040 tax form, W-2's, and a letter from my employer and paystubs for 6 months. I also sent a 3-ring binder of all of his paperwork that I downloaded from the Rio embassy website, filled it all out, and placed little arrows where he needed to sign. I placed each form in a plastic protector and organized it in the same way the embassy requests it. I sent a question and answer sheet for him to study with questions such as my parents and siblings names, where they live, etc... I sent copies of all phone records, pictures and anything else indicating a bonafide relationship. I placed colored dividers in the binder to organize it all and I made 2 of these binders. I still have the 2nd binder in my closet.

As far as the medical exam, I believe a friend of mine had to go to Recife because there wasn't a doctor where his fiance lived. I'm not sure if it was Fortaleza where she lived, but that sounds familiar. Or maybe it's familiar because I've been there. Not sure...sorry. You can always call the consulate to confirm the list, but I do believe it's accurate.

When packet 3 was sent out, my fiance and myself received it, however my fiance received his far too late and I had already FedEx'd everything to him.

Good luck!

Thank you. that was very informative. What paperwork did you download from the Rio consulate? Can you tell me where to find it? I would like to copy what you did. It sounds very organized.

Did you have to send down another copy of your birth certificate or did it come with the packet sent from USCIS to NVC?
