I have recently subscribed to the USCIS case status service online to receive automatic email notifications on any change in my N-400 application status. As I am applying from overseas under section 319(B) I am concerned that I may miss important notifications as the postal service to my husband's duty station is relatively dependable but very slow sometimes. I would be grateful if other members of VJ who have subscribed to this service can confirm if it is reliable.

I'm not sure about petitions that are sent from overseas but the service itself is pretty reliable for most type of petitions except for US citizenship as these are processed by local offices and not any of the service centers.

Maybe other members who've filed from outside the US can give you some more info.

i would not bank on it, mine does not even work, but i know others whose do work say it does not show updates all the time. I called USCIS about my receipt number giving an error message and they said they have problems with the online service so some people won't get updates, some won't even get online and i guess some work. For my past applications, they worked sometimes. Sometimes it gave me updates (sometimes the same update for several days straight but different wording) other time no update at all. Its better to try to call for updates.

They don't do any updates for N-400 applications. Your best bet is to call them. If they have sent something, and you have not got it call them up. I know it sucks -_- ...my application still states pending...lol

Love this question, reminds me to check my wife's status, this is of five seconds ago.

"Application Type: N400, APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION Current Status: Case received and pending.

On March 31, 2008, we received this N400 APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION, and mailed you a notice describing how we will process your case. Please follow any instructions on this notice. We will notify you by mail when we make a decision or if we need something from you. If you move while this case is pending, call customer service. We process cases in the order we receive them. You can use our processing dates to estimate when yours will be done. This case is at our NEBRASKA SERVICE CENTER location. Follow the link below to check processing dates. You can also receive automatic e-mail updates as we process your case. Just follow the link below to register."

Thing is, she already has been a USC for nine months now. Can also check the averaging processing dates with your field office, see they finally updated that to March 31, 2009, was in January for a long time. Calling them? If you get that far, they will check your online status.

Can only suggest you keep your mail box in good shape, especially the lid so your postman can open it. Can even camp out next to your mailbox.

Always helps to maintain a sense of humour about these things. Thanks one and all for your responses.
