First of all, just wanna say hi to everyone! This is officially my first post, haha. These forums have been a gold mine of information for me. I'm about to get married to my college sweetheart of 4 years and have been researching the immigration process for quite some time now. Just reading everyone's posts has been very helpful for me, and for that I give my thanks :D.

Anyways, I just wanted to ask about the actual length of time in takes for a I-130 petition to be processed. I've viewed the processing wait times for each of the USCIS's service centers and saw that typical proccesing wait time for IR-1 is 6 months on average. But when I see everyone's siggys, i see I-130s being approved in 3 months, sometimes as less as 31 days! What's the deal? Are the USCIS's estimates that off?? Just wanted to get everyone's input. Thanks in advance ^^.

It's just that each case is different and there are many factors that can cause your case to go well past that 6 months. Many have their petitions approved well within six months. Keep in mind that the service centers also process other types of visas and sometimes that can slow down the process. Sometimes cases are transfered from one service center to another which can slow down the process. If you receive a request for evidence and have to submit more documents it can slow down your case. So since each case is different the time to process them can vary widely. But 6 months as stated on the USCIS's website is the processing time goal for now.

You can get a better idea of how long it might take and when certain events should be happening by comparing your timeline to similar timelines here on VJ. I know when I started seeing people who submitted their I130's around the same time I did and then those same people began getting NOA1's but I didn't have mine yet....I started calling to find out what happened. So it is a good way to estimate when things should start happening for yourself so you can keep on top of your petition.

I wish you the very best in your journey.

Yup, that's exactly what I plan to do when everything is set in motion. Being able to see other petitioners' timelines would definitely come in handy for me when the time comes. Thanks for the quick reply ^^.
