Temporary EAD - JFK Point of Entry

I am seeing a lot of old posts (2007,2008) regarding obtaining a stamp at JFK (as POE) for temporary 90 day EAD. "The most regularly reported airport that will issue with a category (a)(6) EAD stamp on your I-94 is JFK airport in New York". Does anyone have recent experience with this? Does this apply to the K-1 visa? Is there something that the beneficiary needs to receive at the Embassy prior to arrival at JFK? The sooner he could begin to work, the happier I think he would be here. It would be great if we could avoid the ~90 day waiting period, as he is a bit of a workaholic!

Thank you so much!

Someone just posted about this saying they received EAD at JFK without even having to ask. JFK still grants EAD on arrival.

From what I understand that EAD is only valid as long as the I-94 i.e. 90 days from arriving at POE. Generally the other EAD is granted 90 days after filing for AOS, which comes after marriage, so the likelihood is that there could be weeks or longer between when the first EAD expires and the other one is granted. Technically he cannot be working during that time. Not many employers are willing to hire someone knowing that their work authorization shall expire in 90 days or less.

JFK doesn't "grant" anything. JFK wastes ink stamping the temporary employment authorized stamp on K-1s I-94s.

In February the DHS revised the form I-9 used by all employers to verify the work authorization of all persons. I used to be sufficient (though never really "legal") to show an I-94 with this stamp, along with a vaild passport and be "authorized" to work. This was vecause the form was vague in its intent. It is no longer vague. K-1s must have an EAD or Green Card to legally be employed.

Some agree with Gary and others do not. Probably best to err on the side of caution and wait for EAD while filing for AOS.
