Hello, just joined here, there seems to be a lot of knowledgeable people on this site. I am posting because I am going to be applying for the K1 visa for my Canadian girlfriend, we are both very concerned about making sure this gets done properly because we want to be together as soon as possible and do not want it delayed or drug out. My main questions are is it just the I-129F that we need to fill out and send in with our evidence proving our relationship? Or are there other forms that need to be completed and sent in as well? Every site seems to say a different thing. Also I was wondering if there is a sample letter to go by to have family members write the letter to verify relationship or what exactly should be in the letters from them, and how many letters do we need from my family and from her family? And if there is any other tricky stuff that we should know about before I send in the application. Any information would be greatly appreciated as this all seems quite overwhelming and confusing. Thank you very much.

It also tells you in the instructions on I-129f under "what other documents do you need". I haven't heard most people having letters from friends and family unless they don't have any other evidence or they are from a high fraud consulate, which Canada is not. So basically unless you have NO evidence of a relationship, I wouldn't bother with it.

There is a complete step-by-step guide here which also contains an 'assembly' guide (showing you what to include, what to fill out, etc).

Pretty much everything you'll need to do is outlined/explained in there...

(Most all of us followed the guide and are/have-been successful.)

top of any page you will see a "guides" tab... read it

just for clarification,

1) You the USC are NOT applying for a K-1 visa but petitioning to determine eligibility of your fiance(e) to apply for a visa in the future

2) For the I-129F you are NOT required to prove a "bonafide" relationship... You are only required to provide evidence of face to face meeting within the past two years... relationship bonafides are optional with the I-129F and become more important come consulate interview

YMMV

It is good you want to do it right, seems to be the only way :) You need to read the guides and forums as I could not possibly give you full and complete answer here. She is your "fiancee" not your "girlfreind" that is first. There are no "girlfriend visas"

Read the guides, when you understand what you don't understand, ask us. Yes there is a lot of knowledge here and the site is kept really clean and to the point, by far the best there is. Good luck, see ya 'round soon!

Awesome, thank you all for the extremely fast responses, I will read through the guides and see if I have any questions that I can't find answers to there. Is this whole process easy enough to do myself with my fiance or should we look into a lawyer to handle it, Can they flat out deny her to be able to come here and be with me? If so that seems kind of crazy that they could keep two people in love separate from each other.

This is a DIY type sight... most here have done it themselves... Can they refuse or deny? certainly.. but the success rate far outweighs the refusal rate.

YMMV

You absolutely CAN do it yourself. Yes, they CAN deny visas, and do, but if you meet the qualifications and you have a legitimate relationship it is not likely, particularly from a "low fraud" country like Canada.
