Hi everyone,

I have a few more questions and would appreciate any kind of advice.

1) So on the form they ask to state any other names you have ever used. I remember when applying for the AOS and the I-751, the same question is on those forms, except it says "please include your maiden name". On the n-400 form, it just asks for any other names without specifically asking for your maiden name. Should I still include my maiden name? I know it may not be a huge deal but I don't want to get anything wrong when applying.

2) Ok so another weird thing, when I got married I added my husband's name to mine. The only thing is it;s not hyphenated. So sometimes people assume my maiden name is my middle name. On my lease, they put only my first and last name without my maiden name. I have submitted documents before with this discrepancy and no one ever said anything but my paranoia is running really high. Should I add the name to "names used" or just leave it? If they ever ask I can point out why it happened. I guess.

3) My second question is about the tax documents you need to turn in. Mine are prepapred by our accountant... For the AOS and I-751, I just made copies of the 1040 and w2s and sent it in. But when reading about what documents to send in, it says "certified IRS taxes". Does that mean I have to have my copies certified by a notary? Why would I have to do it now when I never had to do it before? Also, does every page need to be certified or just the whol thing? I may be getting this totally wrong but I just wanted to know what other people did.

thanks!

N-400 is like you never dealt with the USCIS before, you have to list all of your names, I used the I-485 and the G-325a as references. At first my wife wanted to use her maiden name with that hyphenated married last name and I went along with that, while applying for AOS, she was here, but not really here, still had to depend on her home country for a passport with her maiden name ID and all of her papers using that name. But with our computerized system, that became confusing, and we did register our marriage in her home country, so on the N-400, she dropped her maiden name with no problems with no problems with her getting a US passport, and a new SS card with just her married name on it.

Since I do my own tax returns, we had no problems with just copies of that with the W-2's and 1099's with our application, but did bring in the originals. I don't even send in the originals to the state nor the federal governments, the originals having both the state and IRS joint labels on them. It's that joint label that I believe is key. We did bring those in and for some strange reason, wife's IO insisted on keeping those, that really teed me off, if copies are good enough for the state and federal IRS, should certainly be good enough for the USCIS. What's even stranger today with this electronic filing stuff, you don't even send in the original W-2's nor the 1099's, they make you retype all that stuff.

Write all names used in the names used boxes - also put your maiden name there. You can just send in a copy of your 1040 and w-2s - you don't have to get the IRS transcripts, but if you have the time, you can request these from the phone line (they are free). Good Luck

Hey thanks for your speedy replies!

I actually realized I was wrong about the whole tax thing. I was confused with tax form and tax return. I have all my tax returns so I will submit copies of my return.

As for my name(s), I guess that I will put all my names... that would be my maiden name, my hyphenated name and my name without my maiden name, just my married name but doesn't that make me look suspicious?? I have three names and in some places it's one thing and in others it's another thing.

Form says, if you do not have enough space, reference the question, give the answers on a separate sheet of paper with your name and alien number at the top. This way, you can list a zillion names.

Since I have Adobe Acrobat Pro on my computer, didn't have to do that, could chose a smaller font for those long Spanish names, ha, not a name but more like a paragraph. Can't do that with the free reader, should also offer that option.
