AOS: Full medical again, what is required?

Hi all..

This question probably has been asked before but I was not able to find it anywhere. I know I will have to do my medical all over again since the medical I did back home just passed the one year mark. So, I called to the civil surgeon's office in Charlotte area and they didn't really explain what kind of test I need. She roughly mentioned TB skin test, HIV/Syphilis. One thing she said for sure is that my insurance (CIGNA) won't cover the tests involved. The clerk advised us to go to our own doctor to do some of the test, so we could save some money.

Therefore, I am just wondering, if anyone who has been in the same situation (having to do the medical again) knows what exactly I need to complete the medical for AOS. And which are the test/vaccination that can be done outside the civil surgeon's office. We are trying to save as much as we could here...

u just have to do one thing just take I693 complete form ( it has two parts one for the medical exam and one for the vaccination so don't forget to complete both of'em) to any doc its best if u have ur medicade and insurance so go to ur primary doc and get ur medical done and get complete vaccinations and send it back to uscis as soon as possible ..

u have to pay some money i guest around $200 ...

because insurance won't cover these tests ...

there is nothin to worry about ...

just get complete I693 and send it back to uscis ...

i had mine recently in this month and i send it back to uscis and now my case has been resumed ..

one more important thing is get it done by some expericenced doc so that he should make any mistake because if there would be any mistake then usics will send it back to u again ...

so don't worry and get it done soon as possible ...

There is no amount set by the USCIS, so each Civil Surgeon charges a different fee. A full medical exam with vaccines would be the most costly. You do not have to go to the nearest Civil Surgeon in your area. It is best to shop around and find one that suits your individual needs.

Now, I hope this info will help someone who has their medical passed one year mark!

There are a few civil surgeon offices around Charlotte area but they are mostly serviced by the same doctors so I only called a couple of them and explained to them about my expired medical and my intention to NOT spend so much money. First thing she asked was "Are you sure your medical has expired?" Anyways, to my surprise, the clerk at the medical centre suggested that I do not need to do all the tests at the civil surgeon's office and told me the best way to save money is to do the blood work (HIV and Syphilis) and vaccination (Tetanus) at the County's Health Dept for free or at minimal cost. If my insurance covers my own physician, that's even better. Then, I will just have to complete the physical and TB Skin Test at the civil surgeon's office. The doctor will transcribe the medical history to I-693 without any issues as long as everything is current and complete. She gave me the total cost:

Full Medical including Bloodwork, TB Skin Test: $195

Tetanus: $43

OR

Physical exam : $80

TB Skin Test: $25 (Reading will be done after 3 days)

She also advised me to consult with my doctor or the County's Health Department about the HIV test, to make sure that they do the HIV 1 and 2 and be sure to ask about the duration for the results to come back. She said some places delay the results for 3 weeks but if I am not in a hurry, then no worries. If I am, then I will have to let them know of the situation. And all I need to take to the CS office is my non-expired photo ID, my forms, my medical and vaccination records.

I thought the clerk was very helpful and understanding about my situation. She probably has many people calling her asking the same thing. I hope I got everything right. My English isn't the greatest but for sure I will have my husband to call them again to confirm or we will just drop by the medical centre to inquire!

Now, I just need to make calls to the County's Health Department about the Td shot and the HIV/Syphilis testing.
