When seems dominant to you, but in fact he is very kind and has a VERY big heart... :luv: (A secret to all the women married/engaged to Egyptian men out there from an Egyptian woman ;) If he seems dominant to you, make it seem to him that he controls things, don't argue with him just tell him what you like to do quietly and he'll do what you like in the end... They are very kind... If you argue, you will touch his manhood and traditional heritage nerve and it might make things worse) Just have control over things with your calm sweet attitude and win his heart no matter what happens with that ;):)

Me: I want to go sit at the (pay to get in, private) beach (fully clothed, of course, sitting on a rented chair under a rented cabana, without even thinking about getting in the water) with my friend (female, as they all are) tomorrow.

Him: No.

Me: Why not?

Him: The men will stare at you.

<Ten minutes later, reads above and gets a good idea.>

Me: So I can't go to the beach tomorrow? I really want to.

Him: For how long?

Me: Two hours. No more.

Him: It's okay.

Saaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!

My husband has discovered a song that says "6 is afraid of 7 because 7 8 9". He asked me what the heck it meant, to which I replied - it's a play on words ate/8. He hasn't stopped saying it since. Every. chance. he gets.:star:

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

My husband likes word play stuff too. My 13 yr old needed us to get flour for something she's cooking for Spanish class so Usama went to the store to get it BUT when she and my other daughter come in from school he's going to hand them both a FLOWER and say, "your mom asked me to get you flower". He'll play it along until the 13 yr old almost flips her noodle then he'll hand her the bag of FLOUR. He's always doing things like that. Wicked good sense of humor.

Oh soccer. Thankfully he's less obsessed now, but before...

...when I met his mom and sister for the first time, we went to a really fancy outdoor restaurant. His sister only knows a few words of english and his mom knows none. He excused himself to go to the bathroom and I was left there smiling with nothing to say. 5 minutes...10 minutes...15 minutes... I finally got up and walked in the direction I had seen him go. What was he doing? Watching a soccer match with some of the waiters

For those who's egyptians have not arrived yet, have him bring antibiotics with him if he's reliant on them. I'd rather AbuS not take them, but he insists, so he has a stock here that we've gotten from friends who've gone overseas. The first time he got sick and realized he couldn't purchase them from the local drug store was not a happy event.

LOL! Doesn't surprise me at all  A few years ago and my cousin's wedding it happened to be a soccer match of Ahly vs Zamalek and all my uncles said congratulations to the bride and groom very fast and ran to watch the match in the nearest cafe  It was very embarrassing, but the tension was left up when the groom himself (my cousin) went for a little break to watch the goals!! Luckily the bride was understanding and she give him 10 minutes and he came back to HIS wedding...

On another occasion my whole family was traveling to Sinai by cars (that is like 6-7 hours drive from Cairo), and it happened to be another match  All the men driving stopped the cars in a row next to the nearest cafe they found as well and said: "90-min break everybody, have nice walks till we are done' [the nice walks were in the DESERT road, and we ended up waiting in the cars till they were done!]

I do like Egyptian soccer, but Egyptian men can do wonders to watch a match!:rofl:

Lmao these are so true and funny!

Helmy finally learned his lesson with putting lemon in soup after he tried squeezing it in some Hong Kong style seafood chowder, then really regreted. Now he eats his miso soup and everything else as it should be hehe :innocent:

"no problem"

"as you wish"

"you HAVE to know this"

"alhumdulilah for everything"

I think I hear those phrases about ten times/day. lol

I know there are Egyptian characteristics and quirks and Moroccans surely have them but I think there some things very relative amongst MENA men in general.

This is the first summer with hubby here and the whole beach and pool thing.

I have always been a respectable/modest dresser, even when I had the figure to flaunt.

I am not Muslim and he doesn't require me to cover, however, he will at times question what I wear and where I am wearing it to. What seems ok to me and here in the States just doesn't always fly with him. If he is with me, fine.

Alone wearing "questionable" attire, nope

Good thing for him, this summer, I am not looking up to par and certainly wouldn't feel comfortable

wearing the swimsuit  along with the fact that my other summery type clothes just don't fit and I am too self conscious about it. Hubby doesn't mind his wife lookin good he just doesn't want other men checkin her out

This is not directed only to you but at what point does the wife just take a stand and where whatever the heck she wants and if she does this, what does the husband do?

If there are Egyptian men on this board what would you do if your wife wore what you did not want her to wear outside the house?

It's a matter of choosing battles.

At first, I could wear pants and short-sleeved shirts. Then my arms had to be completely covered. Then it became no pants. The latest is no jeans outside.

But, as wierd as it may seem, his point of view (that being he's "a religious man") has made my life easier because it keeps the onslaught of unwanted and unwelcome overtures from these pigs that pass themselves off as men down a bit.
