Medical insurance in USA after k3 visa

Actually, you need to have your husband check with his insurance.

Some will require an SSN. Some will require that you are an unconditional permanent resident. Some don't care about anything else but a marriage certificate.

This isn't a question VJers can answer. Only your husband's insurance company can answer, so call them.

your hubby can add you in his health insurance eventhough you don't have a greencard yet.

But when my hubby goes to add me into his company health insurance, the system asks him for my ssn number, I dont have one.

Nik+Heather thanks! I will ask my hubby to ask his medical insurance company.

Rosy, did your husband file taxes this year with you as married? If so, then you would have had to apply for an ITIN, and that should work in lieu of an SSN until you can get it.

Apply for your EAD as soon as you can, then you can get your SSN and on your husband's insurance.

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

Should rename the USCIS the "World Alien Immigration Tenure" or for short, WAIT, had no problem adding my wife with her international drivers' license to my automotive policy, but had to wheel and deal for cash payments for medical care. Maybe the latter is the better deal, was paying far less for medical care than paying for these huge overpriced health care provider insurance buildings with all those people in there getting rich off my money. But you get concern if something major happens, they will take your home.

Oh, my automotive insurance company reduced my rates even with my wife added, figured I would be a safer driver, but guess health insurance companies don't figure that way.

Hi All,

I'm already in the US on k3 visa and have a qstn about medical insurance. Can I get added to my husbands medical insurance or do I have to live with no medical insurance until I get my green card?

Thanks

Rosy

I added my wife immediately. It took affect the first day of the month following our marriage. Policies will vary a bit, but proof of marriage should be all you need. This is an insurance company policy.

Yes, it absolutely depends on insurance policies. So far we have not allowed our ultra-efficient government to run our healthcare. Would you want to call USCIS when you are sick?

Insurance companies use the SSN as an ID. It is usually not necessary to be covered. If you arrived on a K-3 and were previously married he should have been able to add you before you arrived.

FIRST, get out of the "system" The "system" requires an SSN, the insurance company does not. Get on the phone with a real live person, or go to see a real live person at an agency office. Systems designed to reduce human contact do not have a "menu" for every possible variable.

Not only Insurance companies and policies vary, but insurance laws vary by state as well, so what may work for one couple in Idaho, may not work for another couple under similar circumstances in Florida or Arizona.

Only way to know for sure is to check with a human being at the insurance company and find out when is the quickest and easiest route to getting a foreign spouse added to an insurance policy.
