Hi Everybody! I couldn't see anything specific on these things but i hope you can help or direct me toward something that i might of missed! Okay i just have a couple of questions on luggage for immigration and those x ray machines at customs! Ok here goes;

1) Other than a proper removal plan of getting my things to the US when immigrating does anyone know if i would aloud a bigger weight of luggage in my suitcase or onboard the plane as i am moving to live in another country not just a holiday?

Sounds a little silly i know! :blink: but i wanna bring as much as i can on the plane (If i can) before getting enough cash saved up for that proper removal!

Next;

2) This is for those Video geeks and film/camera experts! I'm gonna be bringing over video tapes of my film work and films for my old film camera etc..are they safe in the suitcase with those X-ray machines?..Or even if i had it on handluggage..and i put it under the X-Ray machineon the conveabelt..i've heard true stories of people getting films wiped off their holidays under the machines..and in my case i have my important film work i can't get wiped... Any ideas? Cheap ones even better!

Thanks for your help guys! :thumbs:

I know you can bring extra weight in the luggage but will be charged if over 50 pounds. I had a piece which was about 58 pounds and it cost me 50 extra dollars tp check that piece of luggage.

Also, each airline has its own requirements for the number of pieces, weight and size allowed. You may want to check with your airline for specifics.

Have no idea about the second question.

Best wishes

No, you don't get extral baggage allowance for moving to another country. That would be quite nice though.

Converting the film and video to digital and bringing it all on a hard drive is one solution. Carrying the more delicate media on rather than checking makes more sense. That way the security folks could examine without putting through the xray machine. I base that on being a frequent traveler, though not one that carries film and video tape. Just what I've seen in line.

Perhaps shipping the film separately would be safer, but no doubt more expensive.

Thanks guys you've been a great help! :) What i'll probably do is take what i can weight wise over, and end up getting all the heavy stuff eventually shipped over because of a tight budget lol! Thanks for the knowledge on the extra prices much appreciated good to know atleast! And on my video tapes on as carry ons even though they of course get put through an X-Ray machine too they atleast can be looked through by security and maybe they could take them through without putting them under the X-ray part if i point out this to them. I certainly have my footage all on my harddrive indeed ;-) good thinking! I'll be taking copies of master tapes too more copies just in case the better! (Leave the originals at home with my Brother!)

You guys are Awesome! Cheers Guys! :D

John, not sure who you are flying with but if you fly BA, here is what I did: They charge 25GBP per extra luggage of 32lbs or less, flat fee, up to the 5th luggage :) that is by far the least expensive way to bring your stuff over :) Just load the donkey and get BA move your stuff for you ;) It was back in Feb, hopefully their policy hasn't changed! To my knowledge BA is the only airline offering that possibility, and that's why I always fly with them :) whenever possible!

Hope this helps
