Austin, Texas is awesome but beaches are not so close. Nor are mountains.

Seattle and Portland are both great, but you will deal with rain for about 6 months of the year. Honestly it doesn't bother me usually, because summer here is beautiful and amazing.

I really like Seattle but it just seems too cloudy. I'm guessing the weather is the reason it was ranked last in a recent quality of life index.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

I have lived in many areas in california and I have to say that Rocklin California was by far the best place. Its further from the beach than you would like but if you have kids and looking to raise a family there I would suggest Rocklin. Good schools, nice neighborhood and affordable prices. Another place I would suggest is Bend Or. but once again not close to the beach. There is some mountains if you love to snowboard and mountain bike riding is very huge here.

That's where I live! Nobody seems to know Rocklin...

California seriously looks like being in Australia. I randomly clicked on a street in Rocklin and it looks like a street straight out of aus.

I don't know what Aus. looks like but if you want modern, nice weather, and a family setting then Rocklin is the place to be. Although Rocklin is stereotyped to be filled with rich, stuck up people-at least the teenagers.

I really like that the houses are unique on the west coast. The vinyl siding cloned homes get a bit old on this side of the country.

Terracotta roof tiles is my benchmark. Any place with them, is warm enough to live in.
