Powell Still a Republican, Despite Party Differences

I have always cut him some slack, even as I criticise him. He's a private citizen, beholden to no party for credibility, who was once the first Black in many political arenas. How could he NOT endorse the first Black man to plausibly become president? Look how long he waited to endorse him. He waited until there was little doubt Barry would win. He's retired from politics, and will move into the future with a secure place in history. It wasn't much of a risk for him to endorse Obama. It was more of a risk for him not to endorse him.

If you cut through all the rhetoric, partisan BS & misc nonsense the fact is that Powell is a moderate Republican & Cheney is far to the right. If your views are moderate then you think Powell is correct... he feels that the Republican party should move towards the center. If your views slant far right then you side with Cheney. Personally I think the right wingers represent what's wrong with the Republican party these days but that is just my opinion. You be the judge.

I understand why liberals want conservatives to be more like them. What I don't understand is why they don't expect us to disagree with that kind of thinking. America deserves differences in political thought. Their desire: two parties, one filled with moderates and the other filled with liberal ideologues, won't benefit the nation at all.

I respect his service, his exceptional accomplishments, his earmed place in history, and his integrity. He's a great man. I just don't respect his political judgement anymore.

If your logic holds water..... that the party was too far Right (which is a valid opinion)... why does he then ditch the big moment to throw his weight behind a candidate who is a Moderate Republican?

McCains loss only adds crede to the idea that people will chose a Democrat rather than a moderate republican.

Since we are posting quotes from Powell, please someone post the "Principles" that cause Powell to call himself

a republican, then we can compare those to Obamas positions.

Actually a party that ran McCain/Palin should be called far out. Out of touch with reality. You can cry for 3 1/2 years until the next election and see what the GOP has to offfer then. Perhaps Limbaugh/ Palin?
