texas=low taxes:)

????? Who told you that? .. Sales taxes range from 8.0 to 8.25 percent and in most major cities/suburbs the property taxes are completely outrageous. no state income tax but they tax the heck out of us for everything else it seems. I live in a suburb ouside of Dallas, most people I know are paying 3500-5000 property tax bills :( Mine's smaller because my house is tiny, but 1800 dollars for 1000 square foot house is pretty high.

Don't get me wrong, I was raised here and i like it but it's not the low price haven unless you live out in the middle of nowhere..and there aren't many jobs in nowhere...

Any thoughts on Seguin, Tx? I think that's how it's spelled.

We are looking for a place not TOOOO far from a city to work in, but where I can keep my horses and not be on top of our neighbors house, like most suburbs.

-Blu-(travellin' down that road)

PS/If you think the taxes in Tx are high...come live in my state for awhile...California pays the highest rates in the whole country.

i'm graduating and need to figure out where we will live...we need to live in a more liberal place but it has to be between dallas houston san antonio and austin ...which of these is best to avoid the hillbilly types?

I would say Austin is most liberal for sure.

Texas is not all hillbilly, but has a lot of conservative people. You will find a bit of everything in every area. The Univ of Texas tends to give Austin that liberal vibe.

No comments about Seguin? It is a spot we are considering...but since neither of us live anywhere near TX, it would be great to have some comments from those in the know.

Hey Blu! Seguin is a nice town and not THAT far from San Antonio but if you want a nice, quiet, country town I'd suggestion Pleasanton. It's about 45 minutes from downtown San Antonio so still not a bad drive. I lived in Pleasanton for almost 2 years and LOVED it. Right now I'm in the process of buying a house in Pleasanton's neighboring town called Jourdanton.

Hope that helps!

Hugs, Liz

Seguin is a lovely small town with an interstate and some main highways passing through it. I would call it rural. It depends on where you want to work. You can buy acreage for a horse pretty much near any city. Texas has a lot of wide open spaces. It's getting pricier in Central Texas, but coming from California you might consider it cheap still. The humidity is less than some parts of the state. What kind of work do you want to find?

Well, I do accounting, but we really want to open a tattoo shop and do some custom bike building. We would like to live somewhere I can have my horses, but close enough to a town of a decent size to work and have a shop. I love the forest but I can deal with most any place, as long as there are trees. I live in the high desert of California. It has it's own beauty, but almost no trees! Anyway, thank you for your responses and ideas. We are really kind of lost on where to live once he gets here. California is out for a variety of reasons, one of them being cost.
