My fiance and I are considering moving to Texas actually. However, he being from Holland, and me being from California, neither of us has any inkling of where to move. I think we are thinking of the Austin area, but can't seem to agree on anything. I would like to keep my horses if possible, so this means at least an acre, but we don't want to have to drive an hour or more to work. We both like trees and green, but again don't want to drive forever everyday. He does tattoos for a living and customizes motorcycles. I do accounting. Neither of us has school aged children to worry about either. Any suggestions?

Kar98 is right, Texas IS a huge state. I moved here from NY to marry my German now-husband (;)) and it's a lot different in Texas than I thought it would be. For one thing, I thought that all of Texas was dry cactus desert. Not at all! East Texas is far from dry, and there are a lot of hills and green trees and cool animals. Texas really is like a whole other country, just like the commercials say. ;) This is mostly a good thing though. Yeah, it has some backwards people with backwards ideas, but for the most part, these are the friendliest people I have ever met. It's genuine, too, no fake smiles here. I've never felt more welcome anywhere than I have here. And, it really is beautiful, and WARM. No more snow shoveling for me. :D

Not sure where to tell you to move but...just keep in mind that there are a lot of preconceived notions about Texas and Texans, and just like anywhere else, some of that is based on reality, but a lot of it is #######. It's not really like the Old West or the OK Corral every day like some people seem to think. :P

Actuallt, Austin is the perfect place for you guys! Just look a bit further in the suburbs, like Round Rock or also the Hillcountry...there you can buy land to keep your horses and I can't think of a better place in Texas to be if you are into tattoos and motorcycles!

I love it here! Also, 300 days of sunshine are definitely on the plus side! :-)

Shoot for the moon - even if you miss, you'll land among the stars...
