My wife got the NOA1 in her EAd application last May 4, 2009. Until now, she didn't get anything like an appointment letter from USCIS (Vermont). She now started to get worried. I wonder what does it mean "return service requested" stamped on the envelop. Please help me clarify this things. Thanks.

Return service requested means if it can't be delivered (the envelope), that it should be sent back to the sender (USCIS).

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS

We filed 3/26 and my wife just received EAD 2 days ago so just before 2 months and all we received was the initial NOA on 4/2.... no other notifications of any kind, just the NOA.

But, one thing we did get on 4/14 was the appointment notice which we had to cancel, because it was scheduled on the weekend I was traveling on business (I've traveled once in 3 years on business and the bio appt was during the travel... my luck!).

Life..... Nobody gets out alive.

You didn't have to cancel your Bio Appointment. FYI, Once you receive Bio App. Letter, you can go anytime earlier than your actual App Date. As long as you show the app. letter, they get you in & do your Bio.

Next time do not cancel it.

I don't think so that you can come for biometrics anytime or its either depend on the service center, because my friend she got her biometrics appointment 2nd week of May, 2009 for EAD she's from MS she drop by at the local office to have a biometrics in advance but the officer wont allow her he said that you need to follow your biometrics appointment notice.

EAD APPLICATION:

2009-01-10 ----- E-filed EAD Application

2009-01-20 ------NOA1 Receipt Notice

2009-01-22 ------Biometrics appointment recieved by mail

2009-02-11-------Biometrics Date (done smoothly)

2009-4-15 -------- EAD Approved

2009-4-24 -------- EAD Received by mail ( yyyeeeeessssss)

She applied for an EAD in April 24th and got her NOA1 in May 4th. We both wondered why it took so long for her to have her biometric appointment letter to arrive.

That officer just made it up. He just gave her a hard time.

Believe me % 90 of ASC will accept before the actual app. date. I can show you so many examples here at VJ threads that people have done it earlier as walk-in. Here is one of the threads for you, I have suggested someone to go earlier for Bio App.

You can do your Bio earlier than your actual BIO App. Date

I was reading your post before & I fallow your advise that we can go for biometrics anytime as long as we have our appoinment letter already but I was wrong to believe you, I was refused by the lady representative there in the local office where I was assigned, she said & qoute "what is the use of appoinment date if we can allow you anyday you want" See? I was there in Jackson, MS Sat May 9 but I told my husband not to go home(our house is 1 1/2 hr drive away) on that day because I planned to go ahead to have my biometrics there, but unfortunately I was not allowed because my appoinment date is yet on May 13. Wed. & you know what? for every 30 min parking fee there is 3 dollars. Bit of advise to those who may not know .

If they want to give you hard time, they give you. What can I say ?

Every clerk & every ASC might be different too. I guess it depends how busy they are.

That clerk who refused you is kind of mean person. Sorry about that your time & money lost.
