I filed my SSN today and SSA gave me a receipt and told me once I will receive my second receipt in mail I can go back to their office and get my SSN. As what I have read here from other post, that filer can get SSN the next day by just calling their office. I haven't read here that we need to wait for the second receipt in mail and then go back in SSA to get the SSN personally. Can I just call them on Monday and ask for my SSN? Is it possible that I can have my SSN next week?

By the way, I filed it in SSA San Mateo, CA.

I really need your answers guys. Thanks in advance.

Am pretty certain you can't get the number (the next day or any day) by calling - it is doubtful they would release this information over the telephone (I could be wrong on that though).

You may be successful doing it in person. Or wait a couple of weeks and get the card in the mail - maybe sooner.

(By the way - Monday is a federal holiday so they'll be closed.)

I remember someone said here in the forum that she got it the next day by just calling the SSA. I have to search for it again cuz I forgot her name. Yes, you are right I just remember that Monday is Memorial Day. Thanks

My wife received her EAD 2 days ago and we went to SSA today at 3PM. They took all of her information (put it in the computer), but told her that HLS still hasn't updated her file so that she can get an SSN. They put her information into the computer only because my wife had the EAD with her. Anyway, when this happens, their standard message at this particular office is "check back with us in 4 weeks." But, I think that message is to keep us from nagging them everyday. They said that my wife doesn't have to visit the SSA office anymore, that her application will be processed, however only after HLS has updated their records.

I think HLS sends a file to SSA so that SSA can load it into their computer system.. this file has the names/information of people who recently received an EAD or GC. SSA simply hasn't received the file that has my wife's name/information in it.

I also read somewhere on here that we could call to get the SSN (actual number). The lady we talked to today gave us the local office number so maybe they will do it on the local level, but maybe not by calling the national number. She said we could call, but she wanted us to call after 4 weeks. We will call next week. :)

I got my SSN card 10 days after i went in the SS office. But, i was able to get my number 2 days after i applied my SSN. I went in their office and ask if possible they can give me my number since I will need it in getting my State I.D. and Learner's permit to drive. I dont think you can get the number just by calling using the phone. You have to go in the Office and ask for the number.

Call the next business day and they will give you the number. You should have the card in about a week

SSA is not supposed to be giving out SSN's over the phone. Maybe some local offices aren't following the rules (and endangering the identity of applicants).

Once the clerk inputs your application into their system, a SSN number is generated overnight. You can walk into any SSA office on the next business day and ask for a social security number confirmation. They will give you a printout with your number on it.

I went there without a reciept hoping they will give me my SSN. Then, the SS lady gave me a print-out of my number. So, if I were you i will try to go there and ask. There's no harm in trying.
