I'm wondering,

as Canadians when we drive across the border into the US, and then back into Canada, both sides never stamp your passport to show that you entered, So I am curious what we as land border crossers can use as evidence of entering back into Canada.

I ask, because I

1. lived in a border town and had many day crossings

2. Had an extended visit of 5 months (have boarding pass from this one) but...

3. returned for a 3 day trip to the US via car the next month after I returned from my 5 month US visit, and passport was not stamped, and I did not start back to work until later in January.

Any suggestions?? Will they accept receipts with my Canadian credit card and signature showing I was in Canada? Photos? School enrollment?

I am just concerned and I want to be prepared for the interview.

Just because they don't stamp, doesn't mean they don't log your number manually or swipe your passport number in the database.

I dont understand what you are asking the questions for though. Are you worried you won't be able to go back this year because you've already spent quite a bit of time in the US?

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Are you asking in the context of what to put in your K1 package as proof of your trips? When you go for the iterview, they don't ask about proof that you returned each time when you say they did. Like Treble commented above, they log your license plate #, don't you worry though - they know whether you've returned! I don't think it's common practice for the border patrol to stamp passports when travelling by land - not that I've experienced personally. 90% of teh time, my passport isn't stamped if I fly either.

Hi,

I'm asking, so I can be prepared if they ask me for evidence of returning to Canada or leaving the US after each listed visit, during my interview at the consulate.

I know that Canada and the US track license #'s and passports, but the system between the 2 countries are not linked everywhere, so I just want to play it safe and get evidence ready incase the interviewer asks for it. I am just curious as to what they would accept as acceptable as proof I returned to Canada.

I just don't want to go unprepared. Better to go with more info then with too little right.

Well, if you carry your K1 paperwork, that would be a start. Once we started carrying the "Binder O'Fun" across the border, problems and questions started to cease. We used a 3-ring binder to sort & organize our info. We could provide the BG with copies of the paperwork. Why would my fiance' stay in the US if that would jeopardize our Visa process? So, with his job doing webdesign for Canadians and our paperwork, we were okay. In fact, we were called into secondary more often before we started the process than during the process (which was never).

Good luck!

They don't ask for proof that I've ever heard- no one really has proof other then a return ticket or something along those lines.

Perhaps someone else on VJ has experience with being asked at the interview, but I think you're just fine. the interview is all of 5-10 minutes and frankly they're more interested in how you met, aprox visits and your paperwork !

I agree, unless you think you have an overstay, which you apparently don't - I wouldn't worry about it.

If you are going to anyway, take whatever you have, receipts on your credit card from both sides of the border for instance, whatever you can muster up.

When we DID have a lawyer, they did say that bank records (receipts, bank statements with withdrawls, etc.) would suffice as good proof of being in the other country. (I must say, that was probably the ONE good thing we got from the lawyer. Other than that... NOT MUCH!)

The fact that you're standing in a US consulate in Canada is kinda proof that you left the US isn't it? ;)

Honestly, in all the years that I've been around immigration forums (which is many moons), I have *never* seen any Canadian say that they were asked for proof of when they left the US from any trip.

Both US consulates that do K visa interviews are well aware that the majority of Canadians live within driving distance of the US border and travel frequently for day trips and for extended vacations. The honestly do not get into detail at the interview and ask you about each and every trip. You don't even have to list each and every trip on your application forums, most of us have just written on a supplemental sheet "and various visits ranging in length of one day to two weeks" after listing just the most recent visits. That's all I did, and the only thing she asked me about was how I managed to fund my 5 month stay the winter before my interview. She never asked for proof of any of my trips, coming or going.
