Here's my two penn'orth

do americans specially non-asian.non south asians more precisely i would say show bias towards muslims?

I won't be living in the US until next week, so I can't give a US perspective to your question, but as a Brit I can certainly give you my opinion. The people I know in the US do not look at Muslims and think "terrorist", or insult or abouse them in many way. As in every country of the world there are a minority who will act that way and view all who they believe could be or are Muslim as a threat.

especially after 9/11.

is it hard to live in america and listen to irritating remarks against muslims?? or one has to get used to it?

I would not like to listen to offensive remarks against Muslims, or any creed or culture for that matter. The entire Muslim community is not to blame for recent events. Again, it is the minority and not the majority.

i am from pakistan

and these days it seems america and western and american media is busy spoiling the image of pakistan and presenting situation in a way it looks more grim and uncertain.although its not true.

I can't say that I have noticed that Western media is spoiling the image of Pakistan. I've watched the news of recent events, and where I get the majority of my news from (BBC) seems to be fair and balanced.

I claim it in the name of the Empire

There will never be one specific answer to this questions. America is a big place with a big variety of people - and with people comes opinions. Are there people/places that are more biased than others? Sure. But there are also people/places that are open and inviting. What people living abroad don't often realize is Americans can be quite biased toward each other.

especially after 9/11.

That was a turning point for sure. Prior to 9/11 (IMO) Americans, in general, didn't have much of an opinion about Islam. That's been changed. Again, it's difficult to make a generalization, but my best answer would be that Americans are concerned about terrorists. The fact the 9/11 murderers lived in the US, plotting and planning, is most disturbing, I think.

is it hard to live in america and listen to irritating remarks against muslims??

It's hard to live in America and listen to the irritating remarks against anybody. As Americans, we aren't supposed to see skin color, gender, religion, sexual orientation, income level, disabilities, etc., but it happens.

or one has to get used to it?

We have a duty to NOT ignore ignorance whenever we encounter it. Not that it happens, but it should.

i am from pakistan

I'm from America.

and these days it seems america and western and american media is busy spoiling the image of pakistan and presenting situation in a way it looks more grim and uncertain.although its not true.

Here's a quick run-down. The media is a business. As with any business, it depends on making money. One of the ways the media makes money is advertising. Advertising always has a target audience. If an advertiser places an ad, they expect their target audience will see it and be influenced into buying their product/service. The rules are these: "If it bleeds it leads" and "Sex sells." Do you see what I'm getting at?

media is not presenting the true pictture

Of course not. We all know that, or at least we should all know that.

i can say with confidence because i belong to pakistan.

its just a propoganda against paksitan

That said, what type of media coverage does the US get in Pakistan? Is it completely free from opinion and entirely factual? I suspect not, even though I've never seen Pakistani media, because I know the media is driven by money. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think so. For example, does the Pakistani media present the side of America that is warm and welcoming to Muslims, particularly immigrant Muslims? It should because it's there. However, I suspect not and that's the reason you've started this topic.

Let's just put it this way - as a Muslim in US you will have many more opportunities here than any Christian would in Pakistan.

Spoiling the image? Oh, well... last time I checked we still have freedom of press (and religion). Which also means anyone can say whatever they please. Do you?

Besides, based on info in your timeline, it is a family sponsored immigration for you. Why don't you ask members of your family already in US how it is here? The question cannot be answered in general, anyway. Depends where you'll be living...

hmm not sure where ur getting ur information from but......... I am muslim we wear hijab are we hassled NO.

the hardest part of living in the usa is allowing others that do not have the same way of life as we do to live their own life without feeling the need to tell them they are wrong.

is it hard to live here? not for the most part depends on how u portray yourself, if u walk around thinking people are talking about u or thinking they are being bias im pretty sure u gonna find someone that is.

did we find it difficult when we first came back from pakistan? u bet we did but not because people where mean or rude to us but because we were not used to the way of life here.

most people in the usa are very kind to people from other countries, being a different religion only means that our life is a little different as in ur not gonna find many places that serve halal food, u might also not find easily halal meat to purchase to cook at home.....

life here in the usa for the most part is how u make it, if ur defensive, then it will be difficult.

if u see a women smoking here dont walk up and tell her to put it out

when u see women dressing with a lot less clothing than is used in pakistan dont assume she is a bad girl, just put ur eyes down like the quran teaches us.

pakistan is not talked bad about any more than say mexico, india, or any other country.

just like pakistan u are going to find people that do not like anyone that is different than they are.

life here is what u make it.

good luck to u

Here i would like to add something

my cousins one living in Misouri and one living in virgina are called terrorists by class fellows.although they were born and raised in america.

the media i wiould like to tell you some events they exaggerated.

a few weeks ago

it was all over the media islamabad is going to go in the hands of taliban

talibans are coming close to islamabad

paksitan is about to go in the hands of talibans

all the speculations were on the t.v

there were analysts, debats and discussions on it

i m living near islamabad.its like 20-25 mins from where i am living.

there is nothing like the media is showing on T.V

there is one more propaganda that talibans are looking for the nukes of pakistan

they will capture the nukes of pakistan

i think this is a well planned propaganda to actually deprive paksitan of its nuclear weapon.

and before that america destroyed iraq saying they had nuclear weapons or so called weapons of mass destruction

more than one million iraqis died in tha battle imposed by america and europe and yet there were no eapons of mass destruction.

afghanistan used to be the home and head quarters of alqaida but now the american army officers say pakistan is home and head quarters of taliban and alqaida

as a matter of fact america and europe have failed in afghanistan

taliban are controlling most of the land in afghanistan

american troops are just limited to few bases in kabul and some bigger cities.

but the T.V is showing what some people want it to show.

its biased.

you can see on yahoo news and everywhere on the internet

media presenting fake things to the world without evidence.

I am happy that you have finally figured this out. There are always two sides to a story.

What we don't see is how many Muslims are helping to eliminate the terrorists. Maybe if they did that, then other folks would have a different attitude.

yea so true

america has suffered less from this terrorism bullshit than pakistan, afghanistan and iraq.

millions have died in afghanistan and iraq alone

and pakistans economy is also hit hard due to this fight

resulting many investors to flee from pakistan

pakistan army is fighting them and suffering more than 2000 troops have died in the battle so far.

real contributor to the war effort is pakistan

which suffered a loss of 36 billions in war and got only 11 billion for compensation.

its not pakistans war.

its americas war which pakistan is fighting for america

still pakistan is blamed and they ask it to do more

paksitan had no problem with talibans and they never challenged paksitan

pakistan plunged into war to help the world and now the whole world is putting it down and accusing it for no reason.

infact the world is safe as we see it today only becuase of pakistan

so, they should appreciate pakistan

and talibans were created by america and paksitan to fight soviet

those who have any ambiguity about the role of paksitan in this war should also consider the loss paksitan has suffered.

many mothers have lost their children in bombings many soldiers whose mothers were awaiting them anxiously went back home in coffins .

pray for them

and pay tribute to them

i personally think its war with no outcome

this is complicating things without any positive outcome because eversince this war has started after 9/11 there has been more blood shed everywhere.

Of the 6 months I have lived in US, there has been only 1 time where I seen first hand religious prejudice and it wasn't even directed towards me.

I was at the bus stop with my hubby, people usually think of me as Mexican out here or African American. Anyways there was this another Indian guy out there who was waiting to board a long distance greyhound bus, once that Indian guy left the waiting room to get some smoke time outside, the driver of the greyhound bus started talking to others saying how he is scared to travel with that "terrorist" guy. Both me and hubby found it amusing, so my husband decided that when that Indian guy come back, I should talk to him in Hindi and see the reaction of that specific driver. And that's exactly what I did, I started chatting up with the Indian guy in our language once he got back. That driver sure was embarrassed, since he never expected me to be an Indian and talking those things.

But this is just 1 incident in the whole 6 month, only 1 ignorant person I met in 6 months, I bet my husband met more ignorant ones in India within his 1 month stay than I have. So not everything is bad and people are people at the end of the day, you will meet some really nice ones, some real je*rks, some fakes and some honest ones. It all depends upon how you conduct yourself and how you don't let anyone question your dignity.
