Hey! Interview may 19th---approved without a hitch! I'll post my review soon, I promise :)

But until then...

On June 4th I'm driving across to Buffalo to pick up my husband, then driving back to Ontario within an hour or two (he's coming for my cousins wedding). June 7th we'll fly back out of Buffalo together! So my question is, I'll probably "activate" my visa before picking up my husband. Will going back across less than an hour later be a problem? Anybe else ever done that?

Just thought I'd throw it out there to see! Good luck to everyone with interviews this month! :)

If you have the immigrant visa, it should say (upon endorsement serves as a temporary I-551), there should not be any problem. If they don't endorse it (which I don't see why), there could be a problem. Just ask the CBP officer doing your paperwork at the border for the first time you enter on an immigrant visa.

When you make your first entry and give them the MBE (mysterious brown envelope) they will process everything then and give you your I-94 stamp in your visa which allows rentry whenever you leave and return. Once the stamp is there you can re-enter as many times as you like.

Congrats on the approval

It should not be a problem at all. Once you are processed your pasport will be stamped endorsing the visa and that will act as a temporary green card. You can then travel freely.

Looking forward to your review of your POE experience. I hope to be crossing there in June as well!

That is what I've always read - sounds good! I will be crossing a land border too - in about a week (as long as I get the visa in hand) so I'll post and let you know how it goes! I think we'll have to have a east coast party once we're all there!

Done for 3 years or 10 years. Haven't decided yet.

(I'm going for the IR-1 and blowing off the K-3. Even if it takes an extra couple months, it's worth it to not have to deal with USCIS again)

Note:

Please fill out I-130, wait 6 months for approval, then 3 more months for an interview. (Unless of course we've bombed your country into the stone age, then you qualify for expedited processing.)
