This is very sad indeed. I remember hearing on the radio when they found a "shoe" in a playground that may have a body attached to it. Then they confirmed that it was a body in the sand. I just could not believe it. There were no reports of missing children in the area. And the child was too young to attend school so it was almost a cold case in the works. But I believe that her family and neigbors came forward once the police released a computer generated picture of the child. I can tell you that many people here would love to lynch her. She had been kicked out of her families house we heard on the news last night because of the way she treated her son. And then she was kicked out of a friends apartment because of the same behavior. It is very really sad that a mother can hurt her own child like this (or for that matter, anyone can hurt a child). She made a statement that she did not want this child to grow up with noone careing about him like she grew up. I feel she should have given this child up to family services or adoption. This little angel is not suffering any more. RIP (F)

So, you're theory is (leaving aside the 'this only happens in the US') that this woman is just some ###### who woke up one day, decided she didn't want her kid any more, and disposed of it because she didn't give a #######? Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight...

Strange that I never heard of such things a good 10 to 20 years ago. Asked my older siblings and parents and they never heard of such things either. That is, things like the couple who BBQ their 2 year in order to continue to receive welfare for them.

There is clearly a mental breakdown here but what you and I disagree on is what is the root cause of such growing meltdowns. As well as why (population aside) such incidents don't occur anywhere near as often in other countries.

Something is going on in our society where people feel that killing their children or family is acceptable. The odd case is one thing but when you read about such things, again and again, clearly something is amiss. Like the father who strangled to death his wife and children. Probably one of the worst ways to die.

Barring any mental issues here, I think the reason we heard less about this sort of stuff is that it simply wasn't reported. The media has become far more intrusive without the last few decades. Now everyone gets to find out how and why someone was murdered, raped, beaten, molested, etc. These sorts of things have occurred for thousands of years. The difference between now and then is that communication is such that it allows everyone to know something at the push of a button or turning on the TV.

Maybe that is the case with the media here but certainly wasn't the case in AUS. This sort of ####### barely (if ever) happened there. Furthermore, even now, stuff like this just doesn't happen anywhere nearly as often as it happens here. A single shooting in a city of 4 to 5 million, in 4 months, is a big deal there. Five shootings in a single day, in a single city here is not uncommon. It doesn't even phase people here anymore.

It's not that hard to understand. We have four separate English speaking nations in this world right. They have all departed their own way, have various different laws and attitudes to other people; as well as life in general. There are obviously changes in attitude, society etc that are leading to a growing number of these types of cases in America. The country needs to look at the root cause rather than throw out some label like PPD. Same goes with school shootings, or where they not reported either, back 15 to 20 years ago.

Something is going on in society here to lead to such frequent breakdowns and incidents. In my opinion, this seems to stem from the lack of care or compassion for one another. A society where an individual is measured by their net worth and sq footage, rather than their character. I used to hate (loath) how Australians where more people centric than asset driven. I was excited to come here and make money money money. Yet, after seeing the other extreme (the US), where some here would literally throw others under the bus and simply don't give a #######, I'll take the Aussie / Canuck way of life any day.

I don't know what happened after the 60's but it has turned for the worse in this country. Though, there are a lot of small towns outside the major cities (regions), that is, outside your typical North East / LA region, which still have a lot of the old America in them. If we can revive that spirit, America has a chance.

The other issue is that unfortunately you also have a situation where anything pre 70' is seen as evil and archaic, rather than common sense. People need to get over relating everything from the past to segregation and slavery. There is a lot to learn from the past, something that 2009 America has forgotten; thus, the state of the country. Whereas, various European countries and Australia still have a lot of those core values, furthermore, is the reason why their quality of living for most utterly destroys that of those here.

Another example, we actually pay people a decent wage there. Every time I visit I really enjoy going to a store there, even a K-mart, and see people smile. Whereas a lot of retail stores here is like a scene out of dawn of the dead. Heck, even when you first come off the plane here, the staff look like they would rather die than be there.

While some might say what a bloody tangent they clearly don't get that everything is linked to one another. Quality of life is linked to mental health, which is also linked to prosperity, to hope, to the presence or lack of a community spirit and so on. Each to their own is a failed model. Best example: modern America.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

PPD is not just a label BY, it's a real problem. There are over 40million people without access to health care. It's not a stretch to imagine that of those 40 million, several thousands are people suffering from serious/severe mental issues because they can't afford the medical care they need.

I am not sure why you are fixated on the 60's as some magical date when things fell apart at the seams either, why then? Don't you like pop music?

A lot occurred (changed) following the 60's, some things were good (end of segregation) while others ended up really bad for the country (drugs, crime, broken families). Have you seen Back to the Future II? as funny as it sounds, the current America reminds me of the alternate reality.

What is interesting to me as that you as a foreigner don't see the differences. Australia is probably more like the US, than is the UK. Yet you and six seem to act as if the US is just like the UK. It's actually quite comical.

PPD still does not answer why such incidents occur more frequently here than they do in Australia or Denmark. In the same way people use guns to explain America's homicide, yet fail to explain all the crime that does not involve a gun. That is, why such the disparity when compared to Japan or France or Canada.

Lack of basic health care for mental health patients due to insufficient/no insurance. If you you are going to look at a probably cause/effect, that's at least plausible, even likely.

Drugs, crime and broken families began in the 1960's? As I said BY, you portray a total lack of knowledge of social history which makes your analysis laughable.

Where on earth do you get the idea that I believe the UK and the US are identical by the way? That one has me stumped.

N.M. cops: Mom confesses to suffocating boy

They say 23-year-old smothered him, revived him, then killed him

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Police said Thursday that the mother of a 3-year-old boy found buried at a playground told investigators she suffocated him, had second thoughts and brought him back to life, then changed her mind and suffocated him again.

Police Chief Ray Schultz said Tiffany Toribio, 23, told officers that she and her son, Tyruss "Ty" Toribio, were in Alvarado Park before dawn on May 13 and that she suffocated him while he was asleep.

She told detectives she had second thoughts and performed CPR on the boy, reviving him, but again reconsidered and placed her hand over his nose and mouth until he suffocated, Schultz said. She said she waited a few minutes before burying him in the playground, the chief said.

Ty's body was found Friday by a mother who saw his black tennis shoe sticking out of the sand. Police released an artist's rendering of the boy's image on Tuesday, which led to tips about Toribio from family members and others, Schultz said.

Police picked up Toribio after she called them late Wednesday saying she had left home and was walking to the police station to turn herself in, the chief said. At first she denied being Tiffany Toribio, but officers found her identification and she acknowledged who she was, he said.

'Somber day'

Neither the district attorney's office nor police knew if Toribio had an attorney, but she would have to have representation by her Friday arraignment.

Schultz called it "somber day" in Albuquerque.

"He was a very special child and that's what makes this case so hard for everybody within the Albuquerque Police Department that's worked on it for the last six days," he said.

At the playground — filled now with flowers, plaques and candles — about a dozen people gathered, some part of the regular vigil held there since last week and others who came down after hearing of the arrest on the TV news.

"We named him 'Baby Angel' and it's important now that we know his real name," said Sarah Sandoval, who lives nearby. "Now, his mother will find out this baby has a lot of people who love him and will do anything for a child."

oh my God :crying: dark times

Passage Revelation 19:11:

11And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.

"satan is real and he's playing for keeps
God is realer and we are His sheep
which side are you on, CHOOSE, start moving your feet
choose JESUS and have ETERNAL PEACE" by GOD to me on 9/26/10 about 2am
Thank you Jesus!!!!
