Mom killed her toddler - twice

Obviously not directly dying, but a gradual deterioration in mental health resulting in death.

To be clear, she didn't kill her child (mum was an only, I am sure connected). However, my mum tells me how totally disconnected she was with her. She really didn't have any emotional involvement with my mother. It's a very odd thing and of course sad.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

This is completely and utterly horrifying! I just can't fathom the reason a person could do this. Just a sad and sick individual. I believe the child is now in a better place.

N.M. cops: Mom confesses to suffocating boy

They say 23-year-old smothered him, revived him, then killed him

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Police said Thursday that the mother of a 3-year-old boy found buried at a playground told investigators she suffocated him, had second thoughts and brought him back to life, then changed her mind and suffocated him again.

Police Chief Ray Schultz said Tiffany Toribio, 23, told officers that she and her son, Tyruss "Ty" Toribio, were in Alvarado Park before dawn on May 13 and that she suffocated him while he was asleep.

She told detectives she had second thoughts and performed CPR on the boy, reviving him, but again reconsidered and placed her hand over his nose and mouth until he suffocated, Schultz said. She said she waited a few minutes before burying him in the playground, the chief said.

Ty's body was found Friday by a mother who saw his black tennis shoe sticking out of the sand. Police released an artist's rendering of the boy's image on Tuesday, which led to tips about Toribio from family members and others, Schultz said.

Police picked up Toribio after she called them late Wednesday saying she had left home and was walking to the police station to turn herself in, the chief said. At first she denied being Tiffany Toribio, but officers found her identification and she acknowledged who she was, he said.

'Somber day'

Neither the district attorney's office nor police knew if Toribio had an attorney, but she would have to have representation by her Friday arraignment.

Schultz called it "somber day" in Albuquerque.

"He was a very special child and that's what makes this case so hard for everybody within the Albuquerque Police Department that's worked on it for the last six days," he said.

At the playground — filled now with flowers, plaques and candles — about a dozen people gathered, some part of the regular vigil held there since last week and others who came down after hearing of the arrest on the TV news.

"We named him 'Baby Angel' and it's important now that we know his real name," said Sarah Sandoval, who lives nearby. "Now, his mother will find out this baby has a lot of people who love him and will do anything for a child."

I am probably going to be the black sheep here but does anyone apart from me ever wonder why this sort of ####### seems to occur more in the States than any other 1st world country.

I am also going to throw another one out there and ruffles some feather but I strongly believe that the growing number of such incidents are a byproduct of a society who just doesn't give a ####### anymore. Aka A side-effect of the post 60's attitude of do as one pleases and fight the system (each to their own), rather than a community oriented attitude.

I was lucky enough to have parents who would take a bullet for me. Give a limb for me. Whereas we have a growing number of parents who clearly just don't give a #######. This is only going to get worse with the growing number of people having children out of wedlock, at such a young age.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

So, you're theory is (leaving aside the 'this only happens in the US') that this woman is just some ###### who woke up one day, decided she didn't want her kid any more, and disposed of it because she didn't give a #######? Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight...

Strange that I never heard of such things a good 10 to 20 years ago. Asked my older siblings and parents and they never heard of such things either. That is, things like the couple who BBQ their 2 year in order to continue to receive welfare for them.

There is clearly a mental breakdown here but what you and I disagree on is what is the root cause of such growing meltdowns. As well as why (population aside) such incidents don't occur anywhere near as often in other countries.

Something is going on in our society where people feel that killing their children or family is acceptable. The odd case is one thing but when you read about such things, again and again, clearly something is amiss. Like the father who strangled to death his wife and children. Probably one of the worst ways to die.

How on earth a mother can do this to her own baby? Why not just leave him or abandon him somewhere? Why kill him? And the sickest part is that this litte angel suffered this twice!

BY, I can only guess at this, but yuo appear to be entirely ignorant of social history. You have this weird notion that the world was a nice and moral place prior to the 1960s. I can only suggest you try reading up on thi subject. It is actually fascinating. If you do not fancy factual history books, which can be dry and hard to get through, there are a bunch of excellent 18th and 19th century novels, which while obvoiusly fictional, describe accuratey the social backdrop of those times.
