You can but you shouldn't. Highly recommended against it or risk losing the ticket if something is delayed.

Sorry, I should have been clearer. I guess I was asking hypothetically if spouse passes interview, and visa is not issued until 10 days later, can we still get the ticket after interview is passed, but visa hasn't been issued? From what I seeing, I think the answer is yes. Thanks again.

If you do, try to be sure you get some sort of changeable/refundable ticket or insurance on the ticket.

It's hard if you don't have your timeline for us to see. My wife passed her interview, and we are getting the ticket now, eventhough, her visa will be issue for the next 10 days.

Again this is a gamble, during that 10 day period the consulate can find something to hold things up and simply send you passport back without visa and a notice requesting something, or a denial.

After reading about the long delays after aproval in VN, it would be a serious gamble. But if you can buy a ticket that can be changed -they cost more- then it could be a mitigated gamble.

I did exactly that. My visa was delayed. It was a matter of logistics in procedures. So, we had the ticket refunded and purchased a new ticket for a new date.

My experience is that China Air won't let you pay for the flight until you have the visa. They will accept a reservation to hold the seat. They required Thi's Passport to have the visa in it before they would book us.
