Question regarding affidavits from friends/family

Hello everyone! I recognize some of you from the AOS board, specifically from the "May Filers" thread.

I have been browsing this board for a few weeks now and researching so that I'm ready and up-to-date when I file to remove conditions at the end of June/beginning of July. I've searched for an answer to what I'm about to ask but I have been unsuccessful in finding anything. I know how annoying it can be when the same question is asked over and over again so please know that I did my best to find the answer before I asked. As far as the sworn affidavits from family/friends go, does the writer have to be a US citizen? The directions on the I-751 form don't specify one way or the other and I want to know if anyone here knows the answer before I ask a couple of Canadian friends to write one for me.

In our initial application for the fiance visa we had mainly non-US citizen letters attesting to the validity of our relationship. I would think the AOS letters could be from non-US citizens as well. Might want to have them notarized in the US if at all possible, though.

Does not need to be a US Citizen, they can be an LPR (Green-card) holder. They could also be a good friend living out of the USA, however they MAY need to visit your field office to testify or answer questions about their affidavit.

5. Affidavits sworn to or affirmed by at least two people who have known both of you since your conditional residence was granted and have personal knowledge of your marriage and relationship. (Such persons may be required to testify before an immigration officer as to the information contained in the affidavit.) The original affidavit must be submitted and also contain the following information regarding the person making the affidavit: his or her full name and address; date and place of birth; relationship to you or your spouse, if any; and full information and complete details explaining how the person acquired his or her knowledge. Affidavits must be supported by other types of evidence listed above.

Hi Karly and Bruce.

We deliberately did NOT include affidavits from family and friends in our packet. My research indicated they are not absolutely necessary, and they do subject the signers to a visit or getting called in for an interview. If we get an RFE we have some folks set up to give us them, but again, I don't think that will occur if your evidence is strong enough on its own.
