changing name single to married

Hey everyone,

I got married to an american man 6 months ago and we both were told that it would be better to change my single name into my married name after receiving the green card.

My fiance visa was approved (k1), I got married but our lawyer said it could cause problems in our application.

Now, I am willing to have my married name, I have already gotten my conditional green card (2 years), my social security card and my driver's license (everything with my single name).

So my question is, could I fill in the I-90 form to change my name right now? Or would I have to wait until my greencard gets close to expire?

Thank you!

Fernanda

This is NOT a K-3 visa petition discussion. Belongs here: "General Immigration Related Discussion" MOVING THIS.

Many in your situation simply wait until they remove conditions and file the I-751 using MARRIED name, and then go through the hassel of changing name on things like passport, driver's license, SSN card etc.. after getting the 10 year green-card.

Filing I-90 now involves a FEE.

Whoever told you that it was better to file for adjustment using maiden name was WRONG!
