Again - we pay the salaries of these people. They are accountable and answerable to the tax paying public.

Its not hard to understand. Nor is it outrageous.

What do you pay when one of the dies? Jack sh-t.

I at least back those who serve and protect with their lies. Something no money can buy.

PS Cops do not make much anyway.

Neither do people in the military.

Presumably one must sign up for service before they criticise the folks who committed the abuses at Abu Ghraib

There is just a thought process disconnect going on. The police are not above the law just because their job is shitty and badly paid - even if that were true, which judging by the comments from someone who is in fact in the service, is not the case.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

I will agree that because their stature and training, Police are given the benefit of the doubt in just about every situation. This is why they are held to such high standards when they do break the law.

I don't have much of a beef against law enforcement but I do think any instances where there are perceived problems they need to be investigated. That's it.

That is as moronic as the argument and reasoning in the other thread that religion is the cause of crime and abuse.

People like you six do nothing for society apart from ###### and moan about those who are actually making a difference and putting their lives on the line for a few bucks. As I have said before, you picked the right country to migrate to six as so many people here love to bash on those trying to make a difference. All while they do absolutely nothing, apart form look out for their own interests. Similarly, those who teach also have a number of examples of this lunacy.

For example, a child can disrespect a teacher, insult them, insult other students and even assault them. Yet, the second a teacher has had enough and pushes back, people like you cry murder. The very same type of people who would cry and sue if people at their work did the same thing to them. Aka hypocrite. I have seen this time and time again. There is actually a lady at work who fits this stereotype to the tee with her, "Wha Wha Wha I told the teacher how dare her think my child bla bla bla". The second I rolled her in a meeting and made her look like the fool she is, she cries to the HR and the boss.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

I agree - it is stupid. Its the exact same reasoning you used BY:

don't criticise the police because they have a tough job and you would see things different were you in their shoes.

The rest is your usual mixture of hyperbole, deflection and affected "old git" outrage.

And no I don't see how the police kicking this man's head in were "making a difference". That's just romantic garbage. I only care that they fell short of the standards required for their job.

You just don't get it do you BY? There is no excuse for those in authority overstepping the bounds of their authority. Really, it's that simple. Allowing that to happen leads down a very, very dodgy road, one you have never been down in any society you have lived in. Now, there are solutions to the problems, but allowing those in authority to abuse their authority simply isn't one of them.

Street power is a simple concept. Either the police have it or the criminals have it. I believe in the UK and Australia the police have it. Whereas in the US the criminals clearly have it. Furthermore, they have it in the courts too.

The police in this country have a hard enough job as it is. Surely the don't need any more red tape and criticism. I don't know of too many jobs where not only is your life on the line but you are watched and recorded 24/7, with a measly salary. A police officer dies every day somewhere in America. Every day! Whereas a single police officer has not died in a while in Australia.

Without police this country is screwed. The last thing we need is to hate on them and demotivate them. Yes while those officers should be reprimanded and retrained, they should not be charged in the likes of some common criminal who has no regard for others or their life. Trying to score political points on the backs of those who serve and protect is the cheapest of shots.

Now if the police had for no reason pulled this guy out and beaten him up, yes they should be fired. Making this incident out as such is wrong. Otherwise we might as well charge every battered wife since at the end of the day murder is murder right?
